So This weekend I made a trip to La Plata Canyon, Colorado for a two day stay to show some future Beckheads some outdoor skills. I feels good to be given the respect I have been given by friends who are much older than me for what I have accomplished. I have taught alot of people skills that have now very well saved their lives. A good Friend of mine who I look up to alot as far as the business world has had me show him all I know in the woods, and now he is teaching others, and owns more Beckers than me! :o We took a new prospect out this weekend for a trip, I like to go out with no sleeping bags or tents, just our knives and a few tools and food. We took him up to La Plata canyon and built a great camp, a few traps, threw some tomahawks, and tracked a few animals. Brought the dogs too! I dont have pictures of it all, but here is the totally sweet three man shelter we built! I have to say, II was pretty happy with this one! Enjoy.

Even went as far as fully insulating it, and I saw some clouds coming, so I shingled it with some birch bark:) Shingles were not finished in this picture, but it was too dark after.

All in all, we showed him alot of skills from shelter, to fire, to disinfecting water from the river. We smoked out this shelter, and didnt even think about bugspray on this trip. I like to use everything the enviroment gives me, I dont need bug spray.:D We used old mans beard moss to stuff in the spaces and insulate it, and fallen trees to built it! I will post more pictures of the knives used soon, I think you can spot a bk7 in one pic:) Sorry for any errors, did the whole thread on my phone D; Thanks guys! If you got any questions about it feel free!

The looks of your shelter in the first photo looked more like the beginnings of an old time colonial outpost, a real wall of timber. Great job man and keep on keepin on!

Hey kabar camper, didnt notice your post! we spotted a couple doe, a beaver, and a fox! the beaver let me get pretty close too!

Great job, very nice shelter!

Birch bark is some great stuff! Makes life a little bit easier in a survival situation for sure!

In a certain survival group we use it for everything from shelters to clothes, shoes, and bags. Pretty easy to work with compared to a lot of other bark and weaves nicely. We also use dogbane or similar to help sew it up. It holds up great for what it is. Looks like a great time!
