With the 2 I/C off mustering cattle,I took the time to soak a line at the beach.
Conditions are not great, wind was enough to blow a dog off the chain!
(The met. guys forecast very light winds and clear skies.)
Murky water and strong northerly sweep means plan A(salt water fly) and B(metal lures chucked way out and ripped in fast) went out the window.

No good going for a dip either,Sou'east winds put Box jelly fish and those little Irukanji buggers close to shore.
Either of these will literally ruin your day,at best,or at worst, make it your last.
Have to try Plan C,as in I have some bait,so we will "see" how we go.
The next major landfall out that way is New Caledonia.

Runs on the board!
Summer Whiting, not a big fish, but this one is more than legal size and a good one.
What they lack in size, they make up for in fight.Scrappy little fighters on light gear!
Caught this one in the suds about three rod lengths out.
On clear days, sight fishing with tiny poppers on a fly rod is a ton of fun!
Bullet shape nose, big shoulders and paddle tail;these little speedsters are great fun for the little kids, and the big kids too!
Alvey reel was my Dads, its about 40 year old and still outfishes anything else on the beach.
Sand and salt have little effect. If you drop it in the sand, give it a dunk in the brine and she's good to go.
Alvey's are built to last.
1-7 with me today.

Undersize Swollowtail Dart,he went back.
Pesky buggers that I get while trying for something a bit bigger or better.

A somewhat junior model of the above!
Sheesh, time to give it away if this is all I'm going the get today.
Better not show the 2I/C this pic!
I can here her now saying,"Is that ya bait?"

Randall held up just fine in the brine.
Had this strapped to leg in home made flipper sheath,so got plenty wet and sandy.
Micarta is grippy, even with fish slime/bait juices on your hands.
Like the Alvey,a dunk in the brine and she's good to go.

Knocking the scales off,1-7 with slightly dulled top edge does the job.
