The bead-blasted knives that stained or rusted (slightly spotted)were the:
EDI Genesis I
MOD Trident
Benchmade Stryker

Maybe this will help with the analysis of the steel, hardness and peening method.
Damn, I sure learn alot here.

BTW, why won't my Spyderco Mini-Police neclace rust ? It lives in probably the most hostile environment I can produce (perspiration, showers, soap and neglect).

Bill,
Getting off the blast thing a bit..... I know two people that must have acid in there veins!!!! I work as a machinist and one of the guys I work with rusts everything he touches!!! Anything metal his hands come in contact with, rusts, almost instantly!!! It has gotten to the point where no one will let him touch their tools and he has to wipe everything in the inspection room down with oil before he leaves!!!! I also have a customer that returns his knives every so often to have rusty fingerprints removed from his knives!!! I've never seen anything like either one of them!!! Have you ever experieced anything like this?????

Dr. Lathe,
I rusted those knives in my pocket as a product of the heat and humidity here in Oklahoma. Lynn's right. This is a good place to sweat

Dr. Lathe, we have a fellow with a similar problem on the deck at the Opera House. His name is Bill, but he has been called "Rusty" for the last ten years. He claims it runs in the family!
