Bead Blast friction?

Is it me or is it harder to cut cardboard with beadblast finish knives. I have a Socom and a Mod trident and both knives have trouble with cardboard. I just cannot get the knife thorough it without effort. These knives are scary sharp so thats not the problem. I have a rather dull black coat afck that goes through cardboard with no problem. Same thing with the spydie endura I used to own. Is it beadbast friction?

There may be some enhanced "lubricity" provided by some of these blade coatings, but I imagine that blade thickness and grind has as much, if not more, to do with what you've experienced.

I can't readily find any blade thickness measurements for the Trident or Endura, however, I do notice that the Socom has a blade thickness of .148", while the AFCK comes in at a thinner .125. Also, the grind on the SOCOM blade is such that the blade reaches its maximum thickness very near the center of the blade rather than up near the spine. I wouldn't be surprised if these factors were the real cause for the apparent difference in cutting efficiency.

We should also probably consider the actual bevel angles of the edges on these various blades. This too can make quite a difference in the apparent ease of cutting a material like cardboard. Have you reprofiled or resharpened the edges on any of the knives you've mentioned?
