Bead Blast Versus Polished INFI cutting performace - Advise Please

Bead blast does increase the surface area.

But I think it also "holds" oil and corrosion inhibitors better

Busse's double cut is more than just a bead blast. I have mentioned this a few times, but people do not seem to listen. DC is actually finished to a rough satin first, then given two different treatments. It is quite corrosion resistant. Here is an old post that kinda explains it and confirms what I have said.

Welcome to the forum Jdunks!

Sounds like you are well on your way down the slippery slope of INFI addiction. I see you've also been bitten by the Rats in our sty. :D ;)

Regarding your MS, it certainly sounds like a double cut bead blast. The DCBB starts with a satin finish that is blasted twice, first with a fine silica media and then with glass beads to peen the surface and seal it.
Here's what Jerry posted on the Busse forum ---
"We blast each blade twice using two different types of blasting media in order to get the Double Cut finish. It's a pretty cool finish. . . .

Jerry "
And here's what a fellow Hog had to say about it on the Busse forum ---
"The double cut is also sort of a hand finished finish. Two medias are used in a blasting cabinet to first "cut" the steel surface and make it all pretty and matte like and then another media is used to smooth out results of the first media. (On a microscopic level, the first media tears open the steel surface and the second smoothes things out.)

If you can post a pic, please do. We always love to see INFI porn.

I've only had one factory double cut blade and it was elmax so naybe that made a difference, but it had a rougher texture than the end result of the blades that I've blasted.

Yeah, you have to get very fine media to match the finish on DC

Closest final finish I have seen is with ceramic beads. I usually use glass media 80grit the ballitoni fine glass beads. I have also tried very fine beads and nothing has gone close to the D.C. Finish. The ceramic beads unfortunately are around $300.00
