bead blasting

Last step as it is a finishing proceedure. If you are doing it to stainless steel make sure the beads have not been used for carbon steel.

I'm new and just set up a blast cabinet.
Whats the carbon steel do to the beads ??

I've been blasting mine before I put the handles on to get a good profile
for the epoxy . Then re-doing them after the handles are on.

When using anything on carbon steel [grinding, machining ,polishing, beadblasting ] small particles of the carbon steel are picked up then will be deposited on the stainless. The particles will rust and the rusting will continue into the stainless. IIRC there is a recent posting [General forum] of a Gerber knife with rust spots with that problem. I explained the problem there too.

thanks. for now im using carbon steel. 5160. when i get better i will switch to stainless steel and when i do im going to buy new belts and whatnot for my machines. that should help avoid any chances of the carbon steel getting into my stainless steel.

Please make shure your knife is smooth before blasting. Nothing worse or more unimpressive than a blade that was blasted without proper finishing. >< Should be to add texture not to hide scratches.
