I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to discuss this...I'm certainly not trying to get myself or anyone else jammed up...so if this is not the right place just inform me and I will gladly apologise..My question is to the knife makers or knife customizers..I have several stainless Mora knives, I really like them but they have a mirror polished blade wich bothers me from an aesthetic standpoint. I was wondering if someone would be willing to sanblast or bead blast a few of them for me...I could gladly compensate....Again if this is not the proper venue for this question I am sorry...

You can get a little sandblast gun from JC Whitney or Harbor Freight and do it yourself- it just hooks up to a little air compressor like the ones you pump up your car tires with. Do a search at HF for "gun" it will be the gravity feed blaster gun for 15.99 or the slightly more star trek phazer looking one by the same name for 19.99. JCWhitney has something similar for $59.99. They both sell abrasive media like glass beads, too.

My 2 cents worth. If you are considering a medium stick to beads. Sand blasting no matter how fine will put a sand paper like finish on your blade surface which tends to grab and jam in what you are trying to cut. Also the surface will dirty quickly and its rough nature can promote rust.

Another option would be a hand rubbed satin finsh using 400 grit wet and dry paper that you can do yourself. Wrap a strip of the paper around an apropriate shaped pad ( something flat ie a ruler for flat ground or shape a 1" wide piece of timber to match the hollow grind) Spray the blade with light oil and while holding the handle wraped in leather in a vice evenly drag the paper down the blade from ricaso to tip untill you get the finish even. Try not to pause as you wipe or you will leave a hesitation mark.

At all times be super carefull if you try this, remember the edge is sharp.

Another option is to handrub a nice satin finish which you could do yourself in addition it would be easy to maintain, just ensure you take measure to protect yourself from the edge.

Ceramic beads such as zurblast provide a very nice smooth finish depending on the grit.

just my 2 cents

I use glass beads and prefer the look myself also. I bead blast a lot of stuff including my D2 blades with no problems at all. The beads don't leave any real noticed marks on the blade and many times won't even remove the logos depending on the pressure and other factors. Many times the fine grind lines from making the blade remain as well.

I hate fingerprints on blades. Makes me not want to use it so I bead blast an aweful lot. Scotch brite pads work if you have the tools, as will the satin finish idea but it won't be as fast or as easy to do as bead blasting it.

Usually the hardest part is cleaning up the knife or taping off any parts you don't want blasted and resharpening the blade afterwards because the blasting will dull the edge.
