Bear and Sons American made knives your thoughts

The Bear Ops Rancor II (advertised as S30V and made in USA) has been tested repeatedly with a XRF analyzer and is actually 8Cr13MoV, presumably not made in USA.

that's BAD!

I haven't had anything XRFed, but had a couple of tools that were unknown steel and someone who wanted me to arrange it got frustrated enough just took them and had them analyzed (finding out everything other than carbon was no problem).

I looked up the cost to outsiders here and some metals labs at colleges offer $20 a sample analysis. If someone tests another one of those made not at the same time and finds the same thing, that'd be extra bad.

That's a pretty dramatic accusation. Can you supply a reference for the mutiple tests plus a reference indicating the XRF used for testing can tell the difference?

I have a trapper and stockman from B&S.

The covers are ok.
The springs pull at either a 9 or a 2.
A couple blades are warped.
The carbon steel seems really, really soft. I can never get them very sharp.

I have never considered buying another after my experice.

The only thing I liked was the smell of the buffing compound. Yes, I know I am weird.

Well you're from Hawaii so...😂

I've seen some Hawaiian license plates here in CT, I'm like...how the hell did you get here in a car???

I only buy BS (ha, even their acronym is unfortunate) if its severely discounted, like 65%+.

i bought one of their large folding hunter lockbacks not too long ago because it looked like a nice alternative to the buck 110, the one i recieved had so much side to side play and the tip looked like it had been burnt and used so i sent it back and have been afraid to try another

A client of mine was a regional manager for them for 20 years. He told me about ten years ago that they had started outsourcing materials and labor and only basic assembly was done in the USA. It's why he left the company.
