Does anybody know if the line that they make for Mooremaker has the same problems? I was thinking of buying one of their working knives, now I'm not so sure.

Samael, don't take it personal. Yes, you did. My wife always says that I have a hard head; but, I always thought she had a chip on her shoulder or something. Lesson learned on my end. Actually, I'm glad I went ahead and bought that knife right off the bat and got that over with because, if not, I would always look at their ads and wonder if I was missing out on a really good deal from a "little known great American company" or something. NOOOTTTT!!!! Take care.

I hate to say it but I can't see this company making it. I looked at them at a local new ACE (they are waiting on their Case display). Many of the designs look wrong as Pipeman noted. By wrong, you know how some Chinese knives have a strange shape or unusual nail nick placement. The MGC knife picture looks sweet. Most my slippie's are working knives. I'd rather get a Boker or Case any day.

As for Moore Maker, I wouldn't pay the premium for the MM name. I have two. A Camilus MM and a Moore Maker. The Cam MM is the worst knife I own. It came butter-knife sharp. It is service-able now but I learned my lesson. The true MM was very pricey but a good knife. I prefer Queen or GEC over MM.

I am sticking with Case and Boker and Queen as gifts from my family.

I have 2 Camillus made Mooremakers, f/f no blade play and looks. These knives have everything. You should contact them and get replacements if you're not happy. they aren't the Queen MM's but they are very stout working knives.

Here's my only Bear and Sons item shown here with Boker stockman for scale and traditional content;) the quality is quite good especially considering it's small size. I have owned a few Bears over the years and this the only one left, the quality is too hit-and-miss.

Does anyone own these and what do you think of them as users.

I don't own anything from Bear and Son and saw this line of slip joints in 1095 carbon steel as I'm about to Order (yes :)) more knives.

Thanks for any help.

BTW I'm a Queen and Case fan and they are part of my EDC.

Bear and Son Knives: Bear 4th Generation Knife Series

The illustrated Bear knife series is the Bear 4th Generation Knife Series; a lineup of traditional Bear and Son pocket knives that feature high polished 1095 carbon steel blades. Each 4th Generation Bear knife has brass liners, nickel silver bolsters and an inlaid 4th Generation shield. Available in several classic pocket knife patterns with Yellow Delrin (see links to the left for yellow delrin knives) or Red Stag Bone handles, the Bear 4th Generation Knife Series is proudly made in the US.

I just bought a small jack & a jr sodbuster. If you can find em for around $20, the jr trapper is pretty decent. Stay away from the soddie, though. Got em both at Gander Mtn.

It is sad to say, Bear has struggled with their quality for years. I've been putting some in my collections since the 1990's and have had to return over a dozen different ones because of poor construction, etc. I know they've been working hard to improve their image in the past few years, but they have a long way to go to catch Case, Queen and the like. Some history as I understand it....The Parker-Edwards factory in Alabama became Bear&Sons in 1989 or 1990. The got acquired by Victorinox (or other Swiss Co) in like ? 97' ? and then bought themselves back in 2001 or '02. Since then they bought the largest part of what remained of Camillus after the bankruptcy. That is probably why they are making some Moore Makers now. They also have been making the Remington line post-Camillus. I purchased one of their Remington Scout Knife reproductions using the old tooling from Camillus ... and it is a sweet knife, excellent Q.
They also make the only "affordable" stateside Damascus as understand it.
Any one else who can add or detract from my ramblings....please feel free.

wilterry get a g.e.c.. great f& f beautiful patterns . the 1095 steel will make you a convert to americam knives. queen is great also.i was able to look at the bears before buying since a friend is a wholesaler, did'nt like their blade grinds or fit. never got burnt like some of our members.

I gave them one chance. They flopped. Back-spring stuck up above scales when blade was closed and large gaps between scales and bolsters. I checked their rep at the time (2009), and it was "makes knives of modest quality." Very polite. "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." It's my gardening knife. There will not be a second unless their reputation changes, and it's bad in 2011.
