Bear Attack at a Bus Terminal

Someone should have pulled out a big blade and sunk it in its neck. Everyone just stood around watching.

big blade? this is japan. Non-locking folders under 2.3 inches and 6 inches overall. swiss army knives are illegal.

some loser drove a rental truck into a crowd, got out and stabbed 12 people a few years ago. Government went crazy. Many knife shops won't sell knives to foreigners because we're all criminals. the guy was Japanese. Wonder if we're allowed to rent trucks?

also curious as to why the POLICE (dont they have firearms?) had to call in HUNTERS to deal with the bear........

Very sorry as well as ashamed for this case,
everybody else just watching the bear attacking other people.

I cannot find other words but for shame and sorry.

classic case of a society brainwashed by schools, no, you don't need to camp or hunt, those activities and the necessary practices involved are unnecessary since we spoonfeed you our bullshit so you have to rely on us instead of the land." Then when nature bites their hands are tied, they go WTF do we do now? and people die due to the established government's lack of knowledge, preparation etc. That blood is on the hands of the establishment.

This kind of BS got it's roots way long before there was any schools brainwashing the kids. The kids didn't have to be brainwashed, it was the root society of countries like Japan and England.

Long before there was a Jamestown in 1608, Both England and Japan were a long established fuedal societys in a country with a very long tradition of fuedalism. There was the ruling Royaly and thier minions, who were armed, then there was the peasants, who if caught with an arm were executed on the spot. In Japan, the Emprorer's justice was as swift as the king's justice in old England. If you were not samurai in Japan serving a lord, or a knight or man at arms in England serving on of the landed aristocracy, you just did not plan on having any arms to defend yourself with. After all, you may get the idea of defending yourself against the kings tax collector. Can't have that, can we?

When you have a society that has a 1000 year long history of being disarmed peasants, this is what you get. I can't help but wonder if after enough centuries, it actually gets into the genes.

All I can can think is, thank God America was a howling wilderness when they had a high civilization. I'm thankful as Americans that we have a way different history and heritage.

I did, but all I have to show for it is an Obamination and lots of junkmail.

Nah, just kidding, the NRA does good things. God bless em. Seriously though, what's with the copious amounts of junkmail? Sometimes I get the same stuff twice!

Ok, everyone has seen The Birds right?
Overwhelming numbers don't just make up for low individual strenght, they can make combat impossible.

Why aren't people taught to act like the birds in situations like this?
I very much doubt the bear would have stuck around if the entire crowd just ran at it screaming at the top of their lungs.

Instead we have a few brave souls who acted, but because they were alone, or in small groups it took several tries to succeed. (The guy with the fire extinguisher is a smart man)

wow.. what a bummer... these bears these days man, you never know..
i still can't believe all of those people just stood there and watched... that's messed up..:(

When I lived in Japan only the rookie police officers had firearms and I think they were .38's I know they were all revolvers. The rest of the police either carried a Bo ( hardwood staff) or only a baton. A bear might be a little much for one of them to deal with but I assure you they could handle anything short of a bear.

It is a shame that no one even tried to help the person being mauled.

Because cops, in general, are ....well... they're cops !:p
About 35 years ago I came upon a " traffic jam" up in SW Va.
About 15 idiots were checking out a bear that was just hit by a pickup. I think his back was broken since all he could do was drag himself around by the front legs and howl and growl. At the forefront of this ridiculous movie was one of Va.'s finest glassy eyed wonders with his 38 Smith in hand and not even making the people get back from this critter.
They were within 10 feet. Some closer.
I calmly stepped out of my truck, snatched my Super Blackhawk off the seat, walked up beside Barney The Wonder Protector and turned the bears lights off.:D
Barney headed somewhere to clean out his shorts.:jerkit:

people have no common sense, they have no experience with this kind of thing, they freeze and panic or worse yet run, which kicks in a predator's natural instinct to hunt. Even officials were telling the people completely untrue advice, not to scare the bear away. Joben if it were you and me and a handful of other people on this forum, even if we had no knives and guns, we could have warded off this bear no problem. Between noise, size and flying/waving objects that bear wouldn't have thought twice about hightailing it out of there unless he was starving so bad he had no other choice.

Not to sound stoopid, but I had no idea Japan had black bears

In addition, I can't believe everybody stood there watching like it was a TV show or something

It is a TV show now! I wonder how many of those people have ever seen a bear -- except on a TV show.

Pretty pitiful, but classic bureaucracy, to tell people don't try to scare it away.

I was thinking the exact same thing... I know I would have had at LEAST a knife (fixed blade of course) on me. Bear my whoop my ass, but not before I get in a shot or two...

In case you didn't read, the legislators in Japan thought their agenda was more important than saving peoples' lives so they banned knives over 2.3 inches.

The environmentalists would never have it. Remember the bear vs. arrow story? They blamed the guy who was attacked. However apparently city folk are worth more than the backcountry folk, because here they were anti bear. in the other case they were anti-human. Either that or they don't realize that the city once was bear territory too... its just that since they are on it they can't complain about stealing territory from the bears.

so many things shocking about this.nobody has weapons, the smallest bear ive ever heard of takes out multiple people but most of all nobody has balls.somebody already stated that all it would have took was a group of people to go at him and thats exactly right.ive been in the woods numerous times and had to drive off black bears from my food which are much larger and they take off running like a sissy nancy,i just dont get it.
