Bear Attack at a Bus Terminal

Man kills bear: He is a cruel jerk.
Bear kills man: Why didn't anyone shoot it?

You just can't win with a lot of people.
Many only know they are vaguely unhappy but are incapable of imagining that they would be just as unhappy, or even more so, if things had gone differently. And since they are unhappy someone must be to blame, and somehow it's never themselves.

Children do this all the time, I've frequently outlined every possible course of action in a given situation, had the child reject every one of them, and then get angry with me because I can't wave a magic wand and make them happy with some impossible option pulled in from the Twilight Zone. An obvious case of cruelty on my part. ;)

Most people outgrow most of this eventually. Most being the key word.

Not to call you out but if Japan has a ban on knives over 2.3 inches than Fujita needs to stop posting pics.:D

I dunno...that bear looks awfully small...being there might certainly make me feel different...but I sure would have found a 2x4 and cracked that bear on its face before I watched a sheeple get chewed on. Fear is the most powerful persuader...but no matter how afraid one is I'm having a hard time fathoming why those people are watching while a fellow citizen gets chewed. :grumpy:

I lived in Japan for several years and spent most of my time there in the back country. I lived in the mountains and supposedly there were bear there and you would see hunters going in after them, but I never once saw a bear in 3 years. I'm shocked to see that little guy get so aggressive.

The police carry .38 revolvers, which is more than enough to kill that bear with proper shot placement. People, including the police, were afraid of the bears, so they called in those who hunt them. It's a real shame. It's amazing that so many people got hurt.

That looked like a hiking area and in proper Japanese style you cannot hike without a traditional walking staff, so many people there would have been carrying 5-6 foot long wooden staffs. Get a few people wacking Yogi there and he would have went away.

I don't know if you guys are being fair to the Japanese. If you read the story you would know that the bear chased after someone. A guy picked up a stick and defended that person saving him. The guy with the stick then got mauled. Several people tried to help him and were injured. So many of the people DID have the balls to fight the bear and were injured.

Well, sure... if you want to get technical. But this kind of messes up the narrative about feudal subjects in foreign lands being unwilling to help themselves. Getting mauled by a bear is un-American after all. We have some really good rants brewing that are predicated on our interpretation of events, so if you don't like it, start your own thread. ;)

In case you didn't read, the legislators in Japan thought their agenda was more important than saving peoples' lives so they banned knives over 2.3 inches.

The Legislation, translated, states: "No person shall carry on their person a blade which is longer then the average males dick, 2.3in":D

Crafty japanese bears, the place you least expect to be mauled. This is a giant step for bears.....ninja bears!

Lame. If that same bear had tried that crap around me, I would have worked him on the spot. That encounter would have lasted less than ten seconds.
Bear goes "Rooowwwwr!"
Glock goes "BOOM!"
End of story.
Seriously. That thing was smaller than a lot of dogs.
Didn't humans develop the capacity to deal with small bears- handily- about 20,000 years ago? What we are witnessing here is devolution in action. Pathetic.

Ok, everyone has seen The Birds right?
Overwhelming numbers don't just make up for low individual strenght, they can make combat impossible.

Why aren't people taught to act like the birds in situations like this?
I very much doubt the bear would have stuck around if the entire crowd just ran at it screaming at the top of their lungs.

Instead we have a few brave souls who acted, but because they were alone, or in small groups it took several tries to succeed. (The guy with the fire extinguisher is a smart man)

Great link, made for an interesting read. From there I branched off and read up on the Good Samaritan Law

As the government went insane, I have to be illegal to keep sanity.:D

Seriously, we can carry blades with unlimited size if we are in a proper situation.
That is, when we are in the field, hunting or fishing.

In the city, 2.3" is the limit size so that I carry my blade carefully packed,
including the front zip of my pants.

It's a shame that those standing around didn't pick up any of those rocks and start trying to scare the bear off. I couldn't have just stood there and done nothing. Call me crazy, I guess...

knives over 2.3 inches less than that:yawn:
" 5.5 cm = 2.16535433 inches"
Tell a Japanese guy that you are a knives lover and see the reaction!!!
Well, they don't express what they think, they will think and say to the self that you are hard criminal:eek:
Sadly, they live life by rules....they apply any rule without questions ask(sad)

fujita yuji, tell me if I'm wrong:)

Are you allowed to carry a sword if you are going to a dojo to work out? Doesn't Japan have a long tradition with that sort of thing?

You're right. Sounds like you know everything...

The law you mentioned in the post refers to those built primary as a weapon,
particularly symmetrical blade daggers.
Bushcraft type blades are not covered by this law.

Yes we can.

That statement will get you arrested:thumbdn:

You're right,Thanks.
Now I do declare here that I have never ever done nothing wrong.
---------------------------------
Back to the bear itself, It is quite unusual to see it at this altitude.
To be honest, I have no idea why a bear came up to this bus station.

I've been this place for several times, on hike and bike.

Yes I'm sure.
We can own bushcraft type blades anything we want.

To carry blades is another thing and it is generally considered as a BAD thing,
both by law and sheeple.

Anyway, in my opinion, nobody could expect to see a bear at the place of this case.
I cannot blame people unprepared at the bus station.
I just feel sorry and ashamed for those do nothing but for watching, or even taking vids.
