Bear charge in canada

how does that make any sense?

Lawmakers love to make nonsensical laws. It is legal to own an automatic knife in Georgia, but you can't carry one. I guess the dealer has to teleport it into your safe at home.

I know about the nonsense laws...I just graduated from college with a criminal justice degree...

In New York state, its illegal to carry an automatic knife by state penal law, but its legal if your hunting or fishing by environmental conservation law...

Ha! Maybe they'll also fine him for littering if he didn't pick up all his brass.

Makes sense to me. They allow the carry (for personal safety) but make it very difficult to use. Essentially you have to weigh the risk of your actions. In a matter of life or death, I don't think you would hesitate... nor do I think you should be charged... Hence, they were determining the justification behind the use.

My Opinion... however uneducated it is...

If they made ALL handguns legal to carry but illegal to use, you would see less shootings and a drop in crime rates. Arm everyone and make it near impossible to shoot without consequence.

I had heard that the best way to keep a bear from charging was to take away her credit card... ;-)

Seriously though - very close call and yet another reason to carry a firearm - loaded and ready for 'bear'...

Yeh actually deciding the justification is fine, it makes sense. But still it is kinda ironic when something like this happens and someone who is probably a hero gets tripped up by red tape.

I saw that bear spray vs bullets article a while ago. Got me thinking I might want a can of bear spray. For various reasons a high caliber rifle wouldn't be practical for me most of the time anyway. And there are a few bears around here...should be helpful for any belligerent members of my own species too...

maybe if more people carried guns and the bad guys KNEW they would use them there would be a much higher drop in crime rate.

Can we not turn this thread into this type of discussion please!

lets get back on topic...

In the video that accompanies the story, I'm surprised how long he waited before he shot into the air; that bear was pretty darn close. Perhaps he was hoping it was a bluff charge? Or he had to scramble to get his pistol out?

heck with a charge, that was a double charge...and the camera isn't all that great for showing distance perspective...but i agree nonetheless that that was too close

I wonder how much crap the guy will be in for carrying a handgun? Unless I missed something big, I thought you can only carry a handgun in the bush if your a trapper.
