I knew he was working with Gerber to release a range of Grylls tools and knives, but untill now i hadnt seen one.

The one pictured has a real fugly handle! Hope the others will be better looking...

A little off topic but I do like those boots, a moccasin but made with modern materials !

I like the over all design...not liking the big orange BG but since they are my initials I could get past it :) May have to get one and give it a go....if the price isn't as high as the other BG knife anyway, if so forget it, I don't like it that much!

to quote Jeff Cooper, "It's for SELLING!"

get it?

serrations look cool to the average consumer, who has no clue how to sharpen a knife.

they'll buy the knife to have, because it's got his name on it, but the odds are slim that they'll ever practice any survival skills.

Didn't it say it was one of 10? If so, have fun.:D

He prefers the sawtooth because it's gimmicky. It's 'survivasexual' and it'll sell to all the armchair Discovery addicts that live their lives through a TV.

I think it's very innovative. The add-ons are not much different from what some carry in the front pouch of their knife sheath.

Whilst avoiding trying to answer for him I'd speculate the reason is military minded training as opposed to Neo-bushcraft inclinations. If the goal is just to cut stuff serrations can afford a considerable advantage when it comes to tough stuff. I've linked to the video below before, and it clearly shows that whilst serrations lack some finesse they can do a fantastic job of allowing a blade to keep cutting after conditions that could completely nerf a plain edge. + 1. I like it overall, the whistle, built in sharpener, fire starter and the overall looks. I have the Gerber LMF, it was a good knife for the price. What I don't like is the butt / pommel of the LMF, the BG knifes pommel seems more useful. The Lmf isn't comfortable for me, the way my hand fits. The BG knife seems much more ergonomic. I will more than likely get one, once and if they go into mass production and all the hype a newness has worn off and I can pick one up for around $100.00. Gerber makes good knives and that is why I am drawn to this not because it has Bears stamp of approval.:D

I still don't understand why people hate serrations. There are a million tools out there that will do a fine job of sharpening them, and they will cut much better and last longer than a plain edge. On his show, Bear is not a bushcrafter, and he doesn't try to be. I find a full plain edge more useful ONLY on my skinning knives.

aieeeeeeeeeee it is designed, or at least endorsed by Bear Grylls!!

Run for your LIFE..................;)

:D Is the new BG knife a repeat of the gerber prodigy knife? If it's not then I might be inclined to order one when they come out. I already have a gerber prodigy and lmf in black.:D

Its personal preferance. You dont have to understand.

I disagree that they cut better then a plain edge knife, especially much better.

I disagree that he doesnt try to be a bushcrafter. He puts knife to wood to craft things in the bush. Thats a bushcrafter.

Just because a serrated blade will still tear through what you wanna cut doesnt mean it holds its edge longer. It just means its remotely usable for longer. Even then....

Just my opinion though....
