Bear Grylls getting better?

I think of it as a "travel" show. It can be entertaining, and in many survival situations, you wait around, spending little calories till help arrives. Not very entertaining (although Les pulls it off).

It would not be relevant where I live, but I liked how he made a raised platform in panama to sleep above the water.

Yes he is a suvival bush clown, quite entertaining, yet the scenery itself is worth the watching. Its alot better than most of the programming pouring out of Dish these days.

I guess if one wants to watch survival based shows we can do alot worse than Man vs. Wild for now .... that is until Survivorman season 3 hits the air. Anyone ever watch Destination Truth ? talk about a weak show .... good concept but tough to watch the bad acting ..... a little too much "drama" for my taste.

somebody's doing an impression of a Polynesian cannibal ritual and Kevin's doing kata of the "iron finger of death" strike :p :D

Gerberblades is there any particular reason why you don't like Les ?
You've gotta respect his going out on his own for 7 days in survival situations.

Last night I finished watching the South Dakota episode, and from living in the black hills I can tell you that there is no way that he wouldn't stumble into someone on his trek to the badlands. The trip he takes has to be planned out and that is fine with me. After all this is his job and he has a family waiting at home. The more chances of him making it back safely the better. Gerberblades I agree with you. Les is way to much of a whiner why he is filming, but I really enjoyed his off the grid show where he documented making his house 100% green.

I would whine a lot if I was packing all that gear with me. He doesn't whine that much, like when trying to move a fire and it goes out, or he cant spear a seal for 3 hours...

LOL .... I'd be whining too , to myself, but I'd be whining.

I was hoping Bear would chow down on that dead Bison , why not , with all the other crap he puts in his mouth. Maybe he isn't so reckless afterall .

I watched two episodes on youtube. This show is soooo weak. They travel around the world, film how they travel, and for 2 minutes you can see them walking around in the dark, getting freaked out by a noise - but catching nothing on camera. Then they travel back home, ask an expert about the country they just came from and that's it - a big wast of time! :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

At least Bear Gryls is entertaining and the show is produced well with top notch camera work. It doesn't bother me that he receives aid and has a full crew with him. And there is some quality info presented. I learn nothing from Les Stroud and Survivorman because it is so poorly done and boring that I can't stay awake through it. It's the Blair Witch hunt technique in an outdoor show. Watching him come up a trail that you know he just came back from to setup his camera is irksome.

To say something nice about Les is he does practice more primitive skills on his shows. Which I really like. In my opinion its not truly surviving if you have a knife, cup, water bottle, and flint. Both shows are still better than 99% of the other stuff out there.

I agree...Bear is a good entertainer and Les is more of an educator with a little whine:D I do think Bear's shows are quite nice as far as locations and camera work...despite some of his stupid stunts and "always rushing" script, my wife did point out that the four-stick stove stand was pretty nifty.

Bear is a pretty talented guy..sure he gets localized survival training, has a camera crew with him and usually some sort of emergency response team not too far away, but he does pretty well at several projects he attempts. Additionally, he is in pretty good shape for the stuff he does...including his risky stunts that are almost anti-survival in reality.

We enjoy the show because it's a show. Entertainment value is high compared to a lot of other programming. I don't watch a lot of TV, so I hope he remains successful and continues to film different locations and eat new and exotic bugs, get naked (my wife enjoys those scenes:barf:) and even a few stupid stunts.

ROCK6

I have always enjoyed the show, at least it's something interesting to watch compared to most of the crap they send down the pipe.

Same here. I enjoyed the last show of his that I saw. He was in the swamps and caught a large catfish (big enough for a meal) using some bait he held in his hand.
