Bear Grylls Injured

Now you see if they had named his show "daredevil documentarian" I'd think it was the greatest. I'd watch every show with great anticipation waiting for the next bit of nasty to slip down his giblet. Or him to throw him self off a crumbling mud cliff in to a frozen pool of offal while clutching a bladder full of Yak squirt. But for Edward (Bear) to pass himself off as a survival expert is as believable as him passing him self off as a gourmet chef.

Man vs. Wild

Wild - 1, Grylls - 0

Indeed. I think Rat probably has some inside scoop to the truth!

I've done my share of mocking "the Bear", with him srunning down steep slopes and grazing on dead zebras, but really he's probably a likeable guy. I mean, if I was out running around with the guy, I wouldn;t want him to get hurt. Mainly because I wouldn;t want to have to carry him.

The funny part about the story is that: his Man v Wild film crew was there in Antarctica, and they'll be filming his "recovery". Now that promises to be one exciting show!

Glad the Rescuers who put their lives at risk to retrieve these idiots are uninjured,

nuff said.

I have a National Geographic DVD with a segment on a photographer who followed climbers. Now there he was, climbing along with them, and carrying his cameras, and working out camera angles and filming, and maintaining his equipment -- his story was the real adventure, much more intense and difficult than the "adventurers" he was documenting.

Bear Grylls is working out his own demons. I remember an exchange during Jurassic Park II: "Why did you come so far to die?" "I didn't come to die, I came to live." I'm not so sure it's right to show it as adventure or let people think there is anything authentic or appropriate in the way he goes about it. I don't think he even realizes that doing it the hard way is wrong. Maybe it's his SAS background, "the right way, the wrong way, the army way". In other words, just do it.

Needless to say, I'm not following his itinerary if ever I find myself in Antarctica. :p

...The aim of the expedition was to promote alternative energy and bioethanol as a source of power, as well as raising funds for the children’s charity Global Angels.

I dont see the point of being sarcastic here. It seems that he was out there with the best intentions, and Im sure he was able to handle this situation better than 99,9% of Internet-Besserwissers.

I sincerely hope he gets well soon, and can continue filming.

I think the Antarctica thing was for a different show. The MvW crew joined him afterwards in South Africa.

As everyone else has stated, it was just a matter of time. When you try to play out real situations with ratings being your only regard, it won't turn out well. I guess this puts Bear out for a while, and Les is quitting. I wonder if the genre is over for now, or if they'll find someone else to fill in. Maybe Discovery can pull their heads out of their butts and do a show with Mears. Heck, I might get television again for that.

Or maybe they'll get Tom Brown on, showing his "realistic" ways to survive :D U know, kinda like Bear, except not entertaining

A bit offtopic, but maybe this does give some room to new "survival" shows... maybe even a good one? I found this "Lost in the Wild" feat. Cody Lundin from youtube, and cant figure out one good reason why they didn't turn this into a real tv-show.

I probably misread that. I thought they were hanging around down in Antarctica when he was injured. But either way, my point was sarcasm.... I was thinking of his crew huddled around and filming him in the hospital and during physical therapy, and bear would find some way to make it dangerous (there in the hospital), or rather, to do mindless things that were dangerous....

They couldn't do it. Half the viewers would be asleep 5 minutes into it. He's way too softspoken for TV. Listening to him makes me wanna take a nap.

I get ya. I was thinking the same thing when I read it.

Bear: "OK, I need to get some food in me if I'm going to survive this hospital stay, so I need to get to the cafeteria. Unfortunately, it's on a lower floor. Taking the elevator would require at least a three minute walk down the hall, and in a survival situation, you could starve in that amount of time. What I'm going to do is tie my bed sheet around this machine here and rappel out this window down the side of the building."

Who is gloating? People here have been complaining all along that he took unnecessary risks. Should we ignore that he proved us right?

It's all in what you're interested in when watching either show. One guy goes and does something explaining it can be dangerous and shows you (then gets hurt) and has a safety crew with him. Runs around like a wild man showing different ways to do things and ways of doing them WOW !

Another guy carries his own camera's , sits aroung for six days telling you what he did "one time" complaining of sinus trouble's and being hungry and and making the same fire bundle in most every show then on the seventh day walks out to a predetermined pick up area just like the other guy.

Both are decent background sound while playing on the computer. Neither do I give a whole lot of credit to because it's just a job that they get paid for.

Take it for what it is ENTERTAINMENT.

I think we should hold off on our judgment "serves him right for taking too much risk" for all we know the accident in question happened during non shooting events. Till full details are release its too early to make any comment if you ask me. As far as him taking too much risk heck, some of his stunts are just down right crazy and pure entertaining at , best some of his risky things he does is more of stuff you find in those worst case scenario books, some of the things are educational. Its hard to do these kind of shows and make them entertaining and educational at the same time. If the show played it safe ratings would go down in the tank.

Now I'll explain you how to survive with only a knife and a £60,000 helicopter rescue team
