Hey guys,

Yesterday I finished my version of the Bear Grylls knife

Kind of like the design of the original one by Bayley Knife but I wanted to make my own version.

Dymondwood scales,O1,0.2" thick,OAL 8.5"

I wonder how well it compares.

I'd like to see the Extrema Ratio Shrapnel go head to head against that Bailey S4. Not in terms of which the toughest or boswellox like that, but which one makes the better amphibious all-round field knife. At the moment my bet would be on the Shrapnel, especially in view of those dumb serrations on the latest S4.

That look just like the knife my nephew made same kind of wood too.
Only he used 0-1 steel and some wood that was given to me.

take care

Nice knife. Post some pictures of the knife in action when you can. I would love to see it a work.

Dunno how functional the sheath would be, it might be great, but I think you'd be a cheeky git to charge much for it. It looks like just an oblong with a couple of twiddly bits, that could be banged out, simply folded over. Over that is a couple of £1 gimp shop cock rings. Two short bits of also ran stitching that aren't even terminated with rivets. I imagine the hardest bit of making one would be getting the name stamp even on cock ring one.

You make better? I'd love to see one.

I have no need to, I even have factory pieces that come in better made sheaths.

If I were a custom maker having the unbridled temerity to charge those kind of prices for that kind of knife, darn right I would make it better. Even if I were to mimic that uber-basic folded design I am the kind of person that would add rivets to the stitching and a good welt. Small things like that make a difference to me. I believe there is a degree of conspicuous conscientiousness that often marks the professional from the amateur. A child could make that one from a kit. If you pay more demand more.

Wow, great work!
If I was about to make a 4" fixed, I'd (try to) make a similar one. I like the original very much, but the serrations of the newer version aren't my favorite either.
Have fun with yours!

Great knife you made there...I liked the original alot..I cant afford one, but what the hell, I never thought to make one...good job.
That Extreme Ratio look kinda cool..I dont usually like the tactical stuff, but that one has some user friendly lines. Gene

Great job.I want to make my own knife but I keep putting it off.I like the simple design of your knife. All business no frills.
