I can't believe it - the entertainer has gone big time via the discount store! I 'searched' his name - they have 16 products, including four B.G. knives, a machete, and a pair of multi-tools - all Gerbers. Fire starter, basic & ultimate survival kits, annual compendium DVDs, in case you missed an episode of 'Man vs Wild', and even books... you can learn how a 23 yr old B.G. climbed Everest!

What was I doing on such a site? Ordering a copy of the ultimate survival series first season - 'The Walking Dead' on Blu Ray (Zombies look the best on BluRay...) - of course. Hey, Atlanta isn't that far away...

Seriously, what a great - for B.G. - commercial success move. I'll try to resist the temptation... it was easy with that ~$750 Bayley knife from a few years back.

Exactly, Walking Dead... Awesome.

Bear Gyllls... I wouldn't even waste my mortal enemies money buying anything with his name on it. Personally I'm sure Bear Grylls is a great guy, but his show is a complete joke.

I like 'The Walking Dead' series. Certainly more entertaining than a lot of other rubbish on the tele (and it actually has a good storyline).

As for the Bear Grylls stuff at Walmart, that's old news. Bear Grylls is a smart showman and he's capitalising on his popularity and image in the States to market clothes, knives, etc.. He's simply a cash cow for Gerber and they will be selling tons of BG knives so long as his series on the tele remains popular.

The kid is a stud, but stupid, and his parents even worse. There's a truckload of dead bodies still up there. There are truckloads more that were brought down and buried.

Oh wait, I see what you did there, by saying a 13 year-old climbed Everest, it's not a big deal. Easy-squeasy-lemon-peasy. Is there a facepalm emotocon?

Man, not only are they available on their site, they are saying that they are available in store too.

I understand why Gerber and Grylls did this. They want to go after the largest market possible, and most people don't want to spend $100+ on a knife. Maybe these will do well (I think they already have, if they are at WalMart) and they will make some premium versions. Gerber does still make some really nice stuff here in the US.

I do like the color scheme and overall look of them though. That orange and dark gray is slick.

I look at the new Gerber/Grylls line as a chance to get other brand good stuff before it gets bought out by the armchair whiz bang crowd , now they can hero worship and some of the hard to find goddies will come back.

Honestly I'm not surprised by this. As soon as I heard that Bear/Gerber were teaming up I figured they were looking at making a splash in the big box stores, with Wal*Mart being the top target in their sights. :o

Ehh, not surprised. I will not buy one, though. Not that hard to resist, I don't like Gerber products anyway. Now, if it was with another company, then I may have issues resisting the lower prices..

Turns out there are more unBearable products than just the fixed-blade. Got a catalog for The Leader in Quality Cutlery World Wide that has: Compact Scout; Compact Multi-tool; Ultimate Knife; Scout; Parang; and Ultimate Folder -- all made of mystery metal. The Cubs will be able to go nuts over this stuff. And don't forget the deodorant da' Bear endorses.

They have it in store too...I saw the line of stuff while checking out prices on stuff in the outdoor area....

Yep, I was in Wally World the other day trying to sate my appetite for cheap ammo and saw the BG knife as well.

Here's what Gerber -- not anyone else -- says the knives are made of: "High Carbon Stainless Steel." http://bear.gerbergear.com/knives/ultimate-knife/

They also modestly quote "Chad," whoever that is, as saying the "Ultimate" is the "best knife ever." So "Ultimate" is the appropriate name. After all, someone says so.

BFers have inquired and found out that the steel is 7Cr17MoV. Search it. They could be wrong. I could be wrong.

EDIT: Almost forgot... your links aren't working.

EDIT II: When i posted that "Gerbear said...", I meant that BFers have emailed them, and received a reply. Perhaps it was only one BFer, i don't recall.
