Bear Grylls stuff

No way man, the summit of Everest is easy. Anyone could do it. I'm sure Linton has pictures.

Grylls is routine hailed as the "youngest" Briton to scale Everest. I merely provide context.

If you can't attack the argument, attack the person.

I also have no pictures of my drinking liquid from a pile of elephant poop or deliberately going over a waterfall.

BG hasn't been hailed as that for years. Try to keep current.

Every year the death toll on Mount Everest rises, and for every ten mountaineers who make it to the top, one will die. Yet at 7.22am on May 26th 1998, Bear entered The Guinness Book of Records as the youngest, and one of only around thirty, British climbers to have successfully climbed Everest and returned alive. He was only 23 years old.

From www.beargrylls.com/biography.html as of 5 P.M USEDST 04/30/2011. Try to keep current, won't you.

And he's still reminding us about it at his "official website."

Not to mention the 246,000 other Google hits for "bear grylls everest" You could contact them all and ask them to "keep current."

It isn't like he's saying he's the youngest Brit climber to have climbed Everest. It was true in 1998 though.

Well, it's his accomplishment and he can be proud of it the rest of his life.
Why disparage the man because he is successful?
I just don't understand the logic.

Linton doesn't like the show, therefore he must try to libel BG's military record [elsewhere here - that failed] so now it's time to somehow disparage BG's Everest climb. Haters gonna hate.

No I don't like the show. And I am not fond of da' Bear. And those are unacceptable opinions in some quarters. Hated opinions, one might say. So "bladerique" patrols the Forum lest I say anything that might be deemed, in any way, to tarnish the show that he supports. Attacks most anything I say, even when its taken right off the Bear's official website.

Sorta' like if you point out the cold fact that his considerable accomplishment of summiting Everest at 24 might also be seen in light of the younger people who have done the same is to "disparage" Grylls. To even compare him to others is to disparage.

This thread wasn't about BG's accomplishments, until you jumped in from left field with some story about an adolescent that climbed Everest, implying it's not a big deal if a kid can do it.

And no, I'm not on patrol looking for you, but when I click on a BG thread to see you troll again, I'll chime in.

See. If you doubt the faith, you are a "troll."

What does a 13 year-old kid have to do with BG knives being sold at WalMart? Nothing.

I'd say your hateful and libelous BG obsession is more of a religion than me calling out your bullcrap as bullcrap. Calling a guy out as lying about his honorable military record with nothing to back it up is serious business where I come from. It's wrong.

EDIT: Hey, there's a review of the BG Parang in the review forum. Perhaps you could troll in there and post something unrelated to the conversation.

Guys, discuss the gear, discuss the accomplishments, but let's keep it respectful. No personal attacks.

On the topic of knives in general at WalMart, I find their prices not to be that good. You'd think that with such purchasing power, they'd have deals. Nope. The same goes for the rest of the store. It's not worth driving the extra miles. They lost my business.

Well just like I said with the Les Strout Temagami, if Helle can use the Stroud name to get some recognition and market share then I'm all for it. I personally think the helle is a good knife, but I'd be more likely to get one of Helle's other more reasonably priced and just as good knives.

Now for the BG survival knife. We already got a taste of Horndog's impression and that taste is still lingering badly in my mouth. However, if Gerber can increase market share and put more of its tools in to wallymart instead of the knock-off junk I'm okay with that. Unfortunately, unlike the Temagami, the BG knife appears to lack build quality. Too bad since Gerber can and does know how to build a solid knife if they put their mind to it.

So here we are. In the Les Stroud knife thread, people got all upset because Helle produced a great signature knife at a higher price than what people are accustomed to paying for Helle, but not crazy high (still less than $200). Gerber releases a $45 signature knife that doesn't really match to par with a buck 119. Frankly, I'd have been happier if Gerber released a $150 knife that was up to par with an ESEE-6 (more expensive than an Esee, but good). Who is going to win the most market share and sell the most knives between these two companies?

Gerber will win the masses.

If it saves the knife smithing business in the UK, helps mend the bad press and legal bite down on knife carry law, and creates a renewed respect for the tool - even if it takes selling poor gear and creating demand for good gear then its all a plus.

How will a US knife company, selling a China made knife, help UK knife smiths?

U.S. subsidiary of Finnish company selling Chinese-made knife designed by person or persons unknown.
