Bear grylls ultimate pro knife handle scales

JTC, after you mentioned it, I had to youtube the Strongarm.

Yep, the youngest wants one. Guess we'll have to indulge him. Made in USA helps, and it's inexpensive fun.

I have other pieces in 420HC by Camillus and Buck, and I have no problem with the material, provided it's done correctly.

Thanks for the mention.

How are you liking the Strongarm?

Seems to me that alot of people on here wanna like Gerber, but then you get people acting like they are doing something wrong or being stupid. The general concensus being if you like anything with BG on it, then you're an idiot or not cool. Not everything with BG on it is bad, but not all of it is good either. This is supposed to be "Blade Forums", not "Hate Forums". How about adding some useful information on a product you have experience with instead of making nasty comments folks. I,ll give my own based on personal experience. Out of curiosity I bought a BG Pro and added it to my collection of knives and TBH, its was alot more solid then I was expecting. I took it out and tested it, cut with it, batoned ect, and not only did it not explode in my face, it was comfortable to handle, fun to use, and the blade held its edge quite well. It makes a great truck knife or something for a B.O.B. Are there better knives for 54 bucks plus tax? Maybe, maybe not, it depends on what you're shopping for and the reasons behind it. For an all weather waterproof cutting tool with a good warranty and no guilt if it breaks, I say give it a go!

If you really like that Gerber Bear Grylls knife, then by all means get it. Make up your own mind about it after you use it and you see for yourself how it holds up. If it breaks or fails on you after light to moderate use, then that will be a lesson learned. If it serves you well, then enjoy it. I understand not everyone can afford to spend over $100 on a knife, and you tend to get what you pay for, but there are a lot of knife gems out there that don't cost a lot of money. All that said, do your research. I would take a $40 Buck Reaper over the Gerber Bear Grylls fixed blade. I'd even go for the Gerber Prodigy which isn't that much more expensive and is made in the USA.

I bought the BG Paracord knife as a 'throwaway" hog cleaning knife, as backup to my regular cleaning knives. That thing holds up better than much more expensive knives, and if it gets lost, I can easily replace it - which I most certainly will. The rest of the BG stuff doesn't impress me, but to each his own.

I received the BG Ultimate fixed blade as a gift....It wan't as bad as I had been led to believe it would be. I've beaten the hell out of the thing and it seems to stand up to whatever I throw at it. Edged retention does leave a lot to be desired though.

One thing Gerber did absolutely nail with this knife is the sheath. With the top velcro strap undone the knife stays in securely and cants out at the perfect angle. The built in sharpener works well enough, and the ferro rod, while not even being comparable to anything from LMF, does throw sparks and works fine as a back up.

Why should anyone on here encourage people to buy over priced products (for what they are) with such hit or miss QC when there are so many better alternatives that we could recommend instead?
