This piece is on its way to me - my first forged knife.

Its forged out of 0-1 tool steel and handrubbed to a satin finish.

The maker is Derek Goodson (DLG), a young fellow who I can highly recommend.

Derek actually made two knives for me. The first one strayed a bit too far from the prototype, so he started from scratch and produced this one, after we agreed on a drawing.

He calls it the Bearded Tactical, but I think it could do a lot of things quite well. The leather sheath has a large Tek-lock on the other side.

Nice looking knife :)
Whats its over all length? Length of blade? thickness?

Looks like a solid field knife :)

Hmmm.... you got me! The project has been in the works for a while, so I'm guessing a bit. Its about 10 inches OAL and the blade is about half that.

Can't recall the thickness but its not inordinately stout or anything...

I wanted an all-rounder that could slice and dice with ease, so I didn't want it too thick.

EDIT: OK, I looked up the specs. Blade is 4,75 and the handle is 4,5 inches.

That looks great. Looks like it would make an excellent field blade. I like that the handle is nice and thick.

And he's a really great guy to work with.

Excellent communication (all via e-mail) and like I said, he started from scratch when I indicated I wasn't totally happy with the first version (picky bastid that I am).

He sold the first one almost immediately though, so everyone scored in the end.

I have a knife by Derek-everything Buffalohump says is true about him. I recently sent the knife to be re-sheathed (beautiful work) and he reprofiled and polished the edge for free! Great maker and great guy!
