Hey everyone,

Quick question, does anyone know of a good quality 200$-300$ bearded hand axe? Hah I've been watching VIKINGS, and I have Viking blood, so I wanna get something as a homage to my ancestral roots. Any ideas?

P.S- all I've found is crap online, my google-foo is not strong with this one.

Gransfors Bruks has a nice "ancient axes" section. They are for sale at various places online.

Yes! Legion, seriously If I could curse I'd be cursing haha. That's exactely what I'm looking for. Where can I get it?

The head is from Ragweed Forge the haft is from Track of the Wolf. I fit and finished the haft and stuck them together. The haft it came with is only 18 long now it's 22 .

Legion,
That beautiful, I am green with envy. It's exactly what I have been looking for. I guess I need to contact ragweed forge. How much did you end up paying might I ask? And what type of steel do they use?

Can't do that against the rules just Google them they have a site. Wolf we ready to go pillaging ? Just need to borrow a sword.

It takes a pillage.

Oh wow Wolf , I'm more of a fan of the bearded axe, but that one is very sexy as well, im gonna check it out hopefully it's reasonably priced.

P.s had no idea that was against the rules. Hmm I'm gonna have to read the forums rules hah thanks guys

I'll just say it is lower than the price range you mentioned at the start of this thread.

That big beast is 25" overall length. I finally had a chance to destroy stuff with it today. Quick and agile it is not, but the cleaving power is EPIC.

It could definitely smite some trolls.

Awesome I love it, though I checked the web page and I don't see the one like yours, is yours mod'ed ? If not which model is it?

Blue falcon - have you taken a look at Gransfors Bruk? A Swedish smithy making traditional style axes... very traditional... and if you are looking for something to honor your heritage why not buy from a Scandinavian smithy

Unfortunately Legion 12 while that is a nice hatchet I would not consider it "traditional Viking". That hatchet appears to have a milled-drifted eye and forged blade... the vikings, to my knowledge never did this. Their axes had forge welded drift wrapped blades... I would call the type you display as viking'esq but not traditional.

Definitely a nice collectiin regardless.

Neeman tools are also world class traditional axes... what i would call heirloom quality...though a bit more than you may want to spend.

Mine's a close copy of an original found in Gotland. It may not be forged the same as an original but it also didn't cost what a Gransfors would. I can't justify spending that kind of cash on something I want to be able to use and not just hang on a wall. Besides it meets all my pillaging needs. For what a Gransfors cost you could buy an axe a spear and a shield.

Wolf sent them the specs and they made what he wanted . H & B will make you whatever you desire and quality work at an very fair price. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

You are definitely right about he price...
... also, I apologize if it sounded like I was denegrading your axe... that was not my intention. I am just a bit persnickite about language and the word traditional to means mothod and aesthetic... so my comment was purely symantic. ... like when guys say "hand forged" when hey use a power hammer... it may be "handmade" but if you don't swing the hammer its not "hand forged" IMHO...
I'll start this debate in another thread.
