I recently discovered knives with a bearing system in them and was wondering what other makers put them in there knives. The one I aquired from Scot Matsuoka with the IKBS in it, has a 4" blade and it takes just a little flick of the flipper and she screams out. Who else make knives with this system or something like it?? Any help would be appreciated.
Also not sure if this is in the correct spot, if it is not sorry.

I just picked this up from a fellow forum member..

It's a David Mosier Spyro "IKBS"...smooth:)

i think CRKT has some Onion knives using IKBS...honestly tho, i wasnt impressed.

Zero Tolerance is coming out with 2 production knives that use a KVT system, that is similar to IKBS.

I have recently become interested in IKBS too. I was looking for a kind of "entry level" IKBS knife. I have heard CRKT has a few but it seems kadinh wasnt impressed with those.

Well, of course Flavio Ikoma uses IKBS as he is the creator of the system.
Tim Galyean's Pro Series are all IKBS.
Brad Southard uses IKBS.
G&G Hawk use a sealed IKBS system.
RJ Martin uses a system that is somewhat similar to IKBS except his Roller Thrust Bearing washers use barrel bearings instead of ball bearings and are sealed within the washer.
Larry Chew uses a bearing pivot in some of his folders.
Dustin Turpin uses IKBS in his flippers.
Kirby Lambert uses IKBS in some of his knives.
The CRKT Ripple, Eros (both Ken Onion designs), and the Sampa (Flavio Ikoma design) all use IKBS. I wasn't too impressed with the Ripple, but I have a large Eros that's not a bad little knife, and I hear good things about the Sampa.
Kershaw has introduced the KVT bearing system. The first to use this pivot system is the Tilt. The ZT0560 and 0561 will also incorporate KVT as well as the ZT0777.

RJ Martin uses thrust bearings? I knew Martin used bearings but wasn't aware they were of the sealed thrust type. That's news to me. I know DDR uses them. My custom will have them.

RJ uses washers that have either 6 or 7 (can't remember exactly) German made SS barrel bearings that are encased in the washers.

Here's an excerpt taken directly from RJ's website.

The bearings I use are German made, and are of the highest precision available. The bearings consists of a nylon disc with cylindrical rollers arrayed like the numbers on a clock face. The rollers are integral with the disc, so the bearing can be handled just like a washer. My bearing system is easy to maintain, and no disassembly of the knife is generally required for maintenance. If required, cleaning is easily accomplished with a blast of WD-40 followed by a shot of computer keyboard cleaner ("canned air") or a blast of air from a compressor.

Unlike the bearing systems used by some of my my competitors, my bearing system permits simple removal and re-installation of the bearings without the risk of tiny balls flying all over the room! Finally, the cylindrical bearings offer a much larger contact area on the blade and frame, and will not score the blade, frame or pivot pin like ball bearings will.

Thanks for all the imput guys!!! The RJ Martin system sounds interesting. I might have to look out for one of those.
lemmuhj- That is one fine looking knife ya got there!!!

IIRC, this is similar to the system that Zero Tolerance / Kershaw is using.

Dont Forget HTM (Hand Tech Made)- they make some Roller pivots as well.
I also picked up a Brian Tighe Tighecoon that uses Sealed Thrust Bearings. Excellent knife!

Greg lightfoot and Kirby lambert, two of my absolute favorites, use ikbs in some of their models. Great stuff.

probably since the blade is heavier/bigger. the smaller knife was the one I handled and it wasn't smooth to open and wouldn't swing open all the way. OF COURSE if you compare CRKT IKBS to RJ Martin, you won't get a fair comparison!

the ZT0777 looks like a PERFECT knife IMO.
