Bearing rattle?

So I recently got the BM 765 mini monolock as my first ball bearing pivot knife, and noticed a rattling sound in the pivot area which I assume is from a loose bearing inside. The blade fires out fast and smooth, but the rattle annoys me because after discovering it, I now try to listen for it subconsciously every time I use the knife. Is this a common issue for all ball bearing pivot blades, and should I take that into consideration before considering any new knives with them?

The short answer to your question is no it is not common. I have heard/seen it two other times and neither were a Benchmade. The rattle in the both cases was because there was a small fleck of plastic caught inside the bearings and blade. I have to assume it happened somehow during assembly. It caused the smallest rattle sound but if you listened closely you could hear it, and once you heard it you could not un hear it. I would suggest sending the knife back to Benchmade or the dealer you bought it from. Should be a very easy fix. I hope you getting the one odd ball will not turn you off of bearing flippers!

Maybe others have had different experiences?

I've over a dozen ZTs with ball bearings , and if I shake them hard enough, you can hear the rattle on just about all of them (except the limited editions, which are safe queens and are rarely carried ). My point is you can get it exchanged or fixed but it seems this is quite common and I just put it off as a quirk for this type of knives.
Not saying you shouldnt return it, just saying it does happen.
