I have avaliable to me an almost endless almost free supply of used large industial roller bearings made by Timkin and RHP. How can I contact the manufactures to find out what the cones, collars and rollers are made of. Even though they are "used" they are almost in pristeen shape, changed only because of a strict maintanence schedual.
The outside collar on the RHP is a size I can handle on my forge and anvil. When cut straightened heated to nonmagnetic then quenched in oil I can snap a .25 X 1 inch bar like glass but the Timkin rollers and cone will take considerable work the cone weighs abour 5lb. Any phone numbers or e mail adresses will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks lots Dots!!!
Have sent e mail to timkin and RHP have heard stories that even though they spec 52100 in some bearings that they sub case hardend material to the same hardness. Any truth to this? The RHP bearing collar when forged into a flat bar breaks like glass with a very fine grain. I have read that this is a test of 52100 is it?

If you send me a sample I will do a chemical analysis for you.
There are at least 5 different types of 52100
that I'm aware of. The specs for some of the alloying elements are quite different altho they all seem to have about .9-1.00 carbon.
Note that a very similar grade,51100 is also used for bearings and races. Its like 52100 without the chrome.
Take care
Rex
