Beater/user

Fixed: Becker BK-7. It's handled everything I've thrown at it and come back for more.

Folder: CRKT M18-14. My beater of choice, yet the action is still as smooth as the day I bought it.

Fixed - Large, Ranger RD9. Small, SRKW Howling Rat.
Folder - Always carrying a Spydie anymore BUT I'll use the SAK if I'm concerned about the edge.

- Cold Steel Recon Tanto... surprisingly sturdy and good for my uses
- Microtech LCC D/A... a pretty tough folder.

My beater is a SRKW Howler. I even beat on it with a hammer, and the coating is still all intact! This knife can really do it all.

This is a cool thread, I wanna play!

Large fixed blade: Greco Xplorer
Small fixed blade: BK-11

Folder: DM knives Instigator

Fixed blade beater is an old Marttiini Carpenter in carbon steel. Takes a workin edge with two swipes on a diamond rod.

Folders are Opinel #9 in carbon for locking and Victorinox Soldier for pocket carry. I am still amazed how much abuse the soldier can take.

As far as a fixed blades is concernd, right now my "beater" knife is older style Buck/Strider Solution, I realy like this knife, very thick and stout blade, can take alot of punishment.. For a folder, at this time it is my Benchmade 550 Griptillian.

Fixed blade beater: Himilayan Imports Chiruwa Ang Khola khukuri (lifetime warranty: break it and get 2 free)

Folder beater: Spyderco Delica, fully serrated with stainless steel handle. Once the tip broke off I started really abusing it, and it's held up really well. I'm thinking about getting a Native when the Delica wears out.

BM Griptilians for me, these knives are remarkably tough and well designed for what they cost.

No fixed blade beater at the moment, have an Ontario machete that's awaiting customization but that's about it. Just ordered a RAT-3, though, will be here in a couple days. :D:D

I bought a Benchmade 710HS for the express purpose of getting beat up, scratched, and ugly.

Beater, My Gerber Truss 2.5 with a Scary sharp edge.

Less then Beating, My Benchmade 710 PE for all else.(Somedays M21-02)

Dress,Benchmade 707 PE.

I use a Cold Steel Oyabun in 420HC for throwing practice and cutting up gophers, though I still consider my BM140HS my primary beater.
On the folding side a CS Voyager with rounded tip gets the abusive tasks.

My fixed blade beater is a BK&T Combat Bowie (BK9) that I keep in my car kit. It is big, tough, and surprisingly versatile.

My folding beater is a Camillus Aftermath that I EDC. It's way too nice a knife to be treated as a beater, but I always have it with me so when an ugly job comes up that's who does it. And, so far, it just laughs at me and asks for more. It has handled everything from food prep to brush clearing and shelter building with ease.

I do have to admit that I carry other tools for non-cutting tasks, so my "beater" activities do not involve digging or prying with a blade. I keep a fairly extensive emergency kit in my car, including a folding shovel and a prybar. On my person I carry a multi-tool (Victorinox Spirit), a SAK (Victorinox Deluxe Tinker), and a miniature prybar (Latshaw PocketWrench II).

Hm, all my knives seem to fall into this catagory. Anyway, When I'm looking at hardwork, I usually reach for my

Cold Steel SRK for a fixed blade. Or my
Benchmade 710 for a folder.

I know that both of these will survive the work. I was going to say my fully serrated delica, but the few times I've gone to cut steel cable, I have always reached for my 710.

My EDC/beater folders are one of two balisongs that I've made for myself (one legal length for California, one not). I Made a little promise that I won't make a new EDC for myself until one of these dies-- just to see how tuff they are. (I can still make myself a fixed blade, which might be the next project-- and It also doesn't count towards other knives I might make myself that won't see EDC use.)

My beater fixed blade is an old (high carbon) Cammilius Western Bowie that I bought back in '87. That one always goes on the campin' trips with me.

my beaters are a Camillus pilot survival knife and Ontario RTAK.

Everyone's gripe with the Camillus is the tip; but I've used this knife hard, thrown it into numerous trees, and it still has a tip... so I don't know how people are breaking the tips off of these things.

The RTAK is just plain fun, and nearly perfectly balanced to throw (but I've only done that a few times).

I've given both a utility edge, though the RTAK would shave hair out of the box . But I deemed that kind of edge inappropriate for that kind of knife and reprofiled it.

I'm thinking about getting a RAT-7 because my Ka-Bar is just too pretty to abuse.

Folder... just about all of my EDC folders are in the beater category. My current EDC rotation: Buck 301, PE FRN Endura, Camillus Heat, large Sebenza.

I haven't had the 301 long enough to do any serious damange. The Endura is relatively new too, but has done everything I could ever want it to do and more. The Heat has the black coating and the only place it's wearing is on the flipper where it hits as I walk past and into things. I've had the Sebenza for a few years and it attained beater status when the blade caught a big staple in a box and left a scratch along 3/4 of the blade. But each one of those knives I know can handle everything I need them to.

The only folder that I carry that I don't consider a beater is my Vic Soldier, because I carry that solely for food prep and wouldn't cut what I cut with the others with it.
