Beating on a Game Warden

I had an ugly Urban Grey Game Warden that I'd bought as a scale donor a few years ago. It had been sitting, fresh as the day it left Wauseon (well, other than the scales that were missing :D) until the other day when I thought I'd hammer it through a few nails. I'd seen a thread and a few other videos about knives cutting nails, some were just fine, others not so much, so I thought I'd give it a go with the unused GW. I didn't take any pictures, because it was more for my curiosity than anything. Then things kind of, escalated...

Since the Warden now had a few spots of coating missing from the hammer hitting the spine (steel 3lb Estwing) and a some missing coating from the nail scraping it off, and the fact that I think the Urban Grey color is awful, I decided to strip it. But first I etched the logo with some ferric chloride to deepen it a bit. Then I stripped it with some a spray can of Circa1858 stripper. After stripping, it got a quick once over with a scotchbrite belt, then into a lightly diluted FC bath for a few hours. Sorry, no pics up to this point because I wasn't expecting to go this far with it.

After the acid wash, I wrapped the handle in paracord, then soaked it in crazy glue. Almost immediately after the glue dried, this happened...

Awesome !!!!

The Warden is .186, the steel plate is .118 thick. I'll hammer this thing through whatever though. Who's got a good suggestion? I'm taking requests ;)

I'll have to see if I can find something other than our cast iron skillet, because if I hammered the GW through the one in the kitchen, I'm fairly (100%) certain my fiancé would murder me with one of the blades around the house.

looks like a manhole cover only smaller...

a cast iron skillet will do in a pinch, however ;)

Awsome man!!! If your really feeling risky......try battoning through that steel plate you punctured in your pics. Would love to see how that edge holds up

Is it just me or did that edge and tip endure absolutely NO damage whatsoever?!?!? The coating looks thoroughly removed but there looks to be zero damage whatsoever. That is incredible.

It's not just you. The oxide layer from the acid bath was scraped off, but there's zero damage to the tip and edge. It wasn't a razor when I started with the factory edge, then once run through the acid it definitely wasn't, but it almost seemed like the steel honed the edge a bit, as the "cleaned" tip feels sharper than the rest of the edge. It'll grab the hair on my arm, but not scrape it off.

The only damage was from an off center blow with the hammer that mashed one edge of the pommel, the other side still has a square edge. Which I find almost more incredible than the lack of damage to the edge, because I have blown chips off the square spines of other knives from hammer strikes. The INFI just mushes a bit without chipping.

normally cement nails was HTed about HRC40-45 , much harder than mild steel , do you wanna try ? i think cement nails will ruin the edge of your cool AD.
