Beaudry #7 finally home.

Chuck, when BSC took over Beaudry (they also bought Fairbanks and a couple others after the depression), they discontinued several sizes including a few of the smaller hammers and the #7. Its odd as the #7 was one of, if not the best selling hammer Beaudry made.

I know where there is a #100 lber just sitting and gathering dust, ive made a couple offers but they just dont want to sell it.

Eventually I will find a smaller one though, just a matter of time and effort.

That's odd your info found that BSC discontinued smaller models, I have seen Greg Obach's 50 pounder, and a 25 pounder for sale recently.

I don't know which I'm more envious of, the new hammer or the new truck!!!! :D

SUPER frick'n cool Matt!!!!!!!

found an original spec. GE 7.5hp 900 rpm motor running in good shape, but its in Ohio, will look into truck freight prices to Alabama tommorow.

yours would be soooo sweet to make big damasus billets... like a dream come true !

and i see why the other fella's don't sell them.... i'd take a heck of deal for me to sell mine :D:D

think i'd like to get my mits on a 150lber... .. very unlikely though..

take care
Greg

ps.. just think of how much back breaking labour one of these saves yah

hi Greg, the Beaudry "utility" like the one in the link you attached is a different design, still a good hammer but not near as heavily built etc. The "utility" was Beaudrys answer to the lighter duty type hammers.

The utility was made in 25, 50, and 100, they didnt make them bigger, the "Champion" model (like mine) was made up to 500 lb. They also made a "Peerless" hammer they made up to 200 or 250, cant remember exactly.

They also made a "strap" hammer early, Ive only seen photos of 1, and its over on Iforgeiron.

All of the models were well made and served there different purpose with ease.

My 100lb Beaudry is a beast. It weighs 3500lbs on its wooded base. I would like to upgrade the motor bracket but it is working very well now so I will probably wait until it dies or gets close. I would not mind finding a 200lb or even a 300. I think the 500 might be a little on the large size. But boy would it be fun.

Chuck, i would love to have a 100, or even a smaller one, and will eventually find one. What kind of motor mount are you using? Does yours have a clutch or use belt tension as a "clutch"?

Mine has a shop built clutch. Pretty ugly but effective. When it dies again I will restore the factory look. But the way this thing is running I will probably give out before it does.:-)
