Just a question to see if any one else has had this problem. i have a Beaumont 2" contact wheel and love it very much. but yesterday i found a weird problem with it. the bearings are loose in the aluminum wheel. The weird thing is that i have hardly used it. when it was mounted on my NWG i did not use it except for the top roller for my flat platen. but i used it a little bit yesterday and the roller slipped off the bearings. like the bolt was tight but i could grab the contact wheel and slid it left or right like a 1/8". i removed it and the bearing just come out. any ideas on how to fix this or do i send it back. I could see this happening if i really used the heck out of it for like hogging but i don't. i have one small groove in the wheel from someone else that was grinding something on grinder. thy had the wheel not tracking right and was doing something and it left a groove in the wheel. let me just say i was not a happy camper when i saw it.

The bearings are pressed in,IIRC. Either press it back down tight, on a bearing press, or send it to Rob, and he will do it. His customer service is great.

Every contact wheel i have from beaumont does this!! my 3", 4", 5" 6", 8" and 10". the bearings just slide around. but when i put them on and tighten them down they work fine. i just assumed its how they all are.

even when i tighten them down the wheel still slides around.

Have you lost the spacer that goes between the bearings?

When you have that 1/8" of play, does your wheel rub against the mounting bracket. The pics on the other thread show a little different mounting style than Beaumont does. I can't tell but do you have a means of locking in the distance between the outer edges of the bearings before it's mounted to the tooling arm or mounting bracket for the platen.

edit to add, I'm thinking about a jam nut on the spindle.

Just wondering, Craig

Send it back. I've never ddealt with Rob, but I still know he is a reputable business man. Frank

J.T. You know if the shell is going to turn on the inside of the wheel it won't work worth a darn and will howell like craxy in no time at all. Frank

Send it back to Rob. I had a bearing go bad on one of my wheels, and he replaced it free of charge.

Yes, the bearings should be tight. It should be a light press fit with about .0002-.0008" interferance. It's a tight tolerance.

No problem...just send it back for a repair/replacement.

And somebody was whining about no customer service from Rob on another thread!?? Name me another grinder company who would take the time to come on a public forum and OFFER that kind of help!
