After using a Grizzly for 4 years, I decided to pull the trigger on a KMGPL-VS (2hp).

2:58am-Ordered online
8:03am-"Order Received" email
9:11am-"Order Shipped" email

6 1/4 hours and it was out the door, I'd say that's pretty good. I'll update when it arrives.

Looking forward to the variable speed motor. In the beginning I shaved off a bit of skin with the speed of the Grizzly, but managed to get it down.

Any experience out there transitioning from Grizzly type machine (3600fpm) to a variable?
Also I'm looking at small wheel attachments and was wondering if anyone had any advice on useful sizes. Considering starting with a 1". Any suggestions on mounting would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance.

I would go from 1/4" up to 2". You will always find a use for them and if you don't get the set you will always need the size you don't have. Trust me, I know.

Tim

Thanks Patrice, looks like you already did the legwork.
Note to self: search function:rolleyes:

Grinder should be here Monday, 3 business days from order. Impressive.

Fedex dropped off the KMG this morning. 5 business days including the day I ordered.

I can see why the Aluminum arms are so popular now, the steel ones are heavy.

Are there any issues with the static electricity generated from grinders and the VFD control? I'm not sure if the KMG is a zapper, but my Grizzly that will be mounted near it can create quite a bit.

You can also make arms with regular square steel tubing. I have a bunch and they work great and are much lighter. In the beginning I had one tool arm and switched the wheel, platen, small wheels as needed, what a pain. Now every accessory has a tubing arm except the original one it came with.

I'll look into some tubing, that's good idea.

I must have hit the "induce labor" switch on the vfd by accident, my son was born Wednesday morning.

Aluminum tool arms for the KMG weigh about three lbs each and the steel ones weigh about thirteen lbs each. I buy 1 1/2 aluminum barstock in 6061 for about $4 per pound but I always pay in cash and ask for NO receipt and the metal sellers round off the charges for individual bars at dollar amounts like 4, 5 or 6 dollars which is cheaper than $4 per pound. I sold all my steel tool arms and now have about a dozen alum. tool and tool rest bars all drilled and tapped. Wonderful....no rust....light weight and easily tapped with alum cutting oil. Try one and get hooked. Larry
