Beautiful set by Ban

Never used it before. Maybe I could find another knife that is 0.10" thick just behind the edge as an example of the 'before'. I just got the #67 'Ganza FSH, but it has a more normal edge profile.

Yeah finding a knife with a thick edge like that would be a problem ;) Well at least let us know how it performs compared to your other choppers

Totally awesome.

Ban, could you explain the steps you took on the finish. I'm about to start a new stripping project; my previous were just with Scotchbrite hand drill attachments. You're using a belt grinder I assume? What grits, etc.??

I used a belt sander running a slack belt and use a 40 grit ceramic belt to do the initial hogging as I needed to remove a whole lot of material around the edge. Then I followed up with 80grit, 120grit, and then 320 grit. Buffed the whole blade with 320grit wheel followed by medium and fine scotchbrite belts. Initially hand sharpened the final edge with 320grit followed by 600grit sandpaper. Power stropped the whole edge with a leather belt and green compound. That's all that is to it :D

I liked that AD when I first saw it... and now I like it more. :)

Thanks for the photos ResinG... they really show the shape of the blade on the FSH.

From my limited belt sander experience... I know that one wrong move with a 40 grit belt equals a lot of work to correct the mistake.

Excellent work, Ban.

Yep that 40grit can sure do a whole lot of damage quickly ;) Especially those super sharp premium ceramic belts. I nearly ground off most of my finger nail on one of fingers when I slipped. :o All it took was a split second. I can imagine that it would have easily gone down to the bone had I really leaned into it
