With the first break from scorching 100 degree temperatures, I took this oppurtunity to, load up my Pygmy, take a hike and have some fun along the way. I drove to the Goodwater Trail, a quick 10 minutes from my house. I started with one full, and one empty bottle, just to make it more interesting. I had plans to treat water along the way. Here's the set up I took with me.
The trail starts out very rocky.
Can somebody tell me what this plant is?
I gathered some cedar bark along the way, and fluffed and shredded it while I walked, until I had a nice fluffy pile. Then with the combination of my LMF firesteel and a Gossman striker, I got a fire going, just to practice.
I quickly smothered it and saturated the ashes with water. A short time later, and with no water, I arrived at Crockett Springs.
Got some water, dropped in some iodine, and set my watch timer for 30 minutes. Then I added PA Plus tabs.
Then another 5 minutes later, which seemed longer than the 30. Finally drinkable water, that didnt taste too bad. Repeated the process and started back.
A day is done, and here is the gear, that got me there and back.. Hope you enjoyed the pics.
Oh I almost forgot the obligatory, knife stuck in a tree picture.
