Gentlemen:

For your consideration is my interpretation of the Beaver Knife in stabilized Bastogne Walnut and 1095. Used for fleshing out game, the rounded nose of the blade prevents puncturing the pelt. This will be the only hollow ground version of the knife that I'm going to make - future versions will be flat ground - there's just too much hand work involved in getting a wide hollow grind like this true across the nose. The blade was hand rubbed to a working 400 grit finish and etched to reveal a vivid hamon line. The hollow ground blade is sharpened all the way up to the spine with deep 15 degree bevels for quick slicing of connective tissue - as such, this knife is specialized and not designed for heavy bushcraft work. The bottom of the ricasso is rounded and sized to comfortably/safely choke up on the blade with your index finger. The Bastogne Walnut was stabilized by K&G Finishing - the picture does not capture the chatoyance and curls that pop in and out as you move the knife. The solder joint is straight and true with no pinholes - superb fit and finish. I haven't made the sheath yet so you may ask for right or left hand. I hope you like it! The first "I'll take it" gets it. $350 plus $20 shipping - Paypal preferred to my account tksteingass@frontier.com Thank you for checking out my work and comments are always welcomed. Maker's lifetime common sense warranty and free sharpening.

I've only dabbled in hollow grinding but enough to understand that bull-nose tip would be tough to execute. Well done - that is one slick beaver skinner!

Interesting knife. I bet it is tough to get a hollow grind around that nose, especially one that goes so high on the blade. Great work.

Damn TK , that is great . Have not seen one in a coon's age and you got kudos from Bruce . Too cool on a sweet piece .

Thanks Jack - glad you like it. I've gotten a few requests for a fleshing knife and this is what I came up with. It's not a real good knife for speculation (I think) because it's so specialized.

With the title Beaver Knife I guess I was expecting something else. Oh well back to the Cove's Booty thread. Nice work as always TK.

Mike: You are a bad boy today.......Santa's gonna leave you a lump of coal this Christmas :D

Beautiful knife well done. I had one made a few years ago very close to yours. It is a specilized blade but one worth its wait in gold if skinning out a bunch of animals.

How far up the blade towards the tip is it sharpened? Is the top edge sharpened at all? I had an old customer of mine email me last week about making him a beaver knife, having never heard of one before I thank you for presenting one.
Thanks
Steve

Steve:

I sharpened the nose all the way up to the top of the spine.
