Because an educated consumer is better...

I have bought many CRK over the years on ebay, this is the first one that I have an issue with, I take that back, the second one. The first one was a small regular sebenza that someone put together wrong with a pinched washer and used it for about a year. By the time I got it, the bronze washers were badly scored and the lock needed re-hardened because it locked up unevenly for that years time with the pinched washer. CRK fixed it for me, but its the point. It was stated as LNIB, and at the time, I was a newbie.......lol.

I have bought many other CRK folders from ebay and they had no issues at all............I have noticed that everybodys version of LNIB is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Some were indeed like new in box with only the slightest handling scuff, others looked like they were edc'ed for a year....!!! Thats why I always ask for lots of pics, lockup, blade centered, etc.

I did manage to get the little regular sebenza meteor shower recently and other than some light scuffs on the graphic side, its in excellent condition. I will have to post some pics. I took it apart, cleaned, lubed, and it came out nicely.

I had a couple of bids on that one. Nice grab. I was told the small regular Sebenza I bought only has a slight handling scuff, but it is from a CR dealer. I hope to get it today or Tuesday.

It seems I was incorrect.

Even with the blades swapped the Regular blade disappears into the handle around the same spot. Best IMO is to get the blade in hand and maybe send to CRK?

Well, the seller has convicted himself by posting here and on EBAY under the same handle (jjk1284). Thanks to Marthinus' search, on 4/17/08 he clearly describes the blade swap, and now he uses a ton of evasive and vague language when answering direct questions on the subject in his current ad - "the blade feels original", "as far as I know", and " I don't remember" etc.

FYI - he even logged into here yesterday, but hasn't posted anything since 2008.

I completely agree. I had placed several bids on Ebay for a couple CRK sebenzas. I lost all the bids, and I am glad I did. I decided to go with an authorized CRK dealer. If the dealers are swapping blades too, then we have a problem. I bought a brand new Mnandi from one dealer, which I know will not be an issue. I did buy a like new never carried older Sebenza, and I'm still waiting to see what I get. Ebay is fine, but I think only if you are buying NIB and from a CRK dealer, other than that you are taking a chance.

If you buy from a dealer and the knife has issues like blade swapping then report them to CRK IMO, no respectful dealer will do that. I bought a 2006 Sebenza back in 2009 from a dealer. Old- New stock as we call it. Old knife, but still in perfect form, just laying there for some time so dont sweat it. Sure it will be fine.

I just looked at that auction and the price is lowering, people must be cancelling their bids ?? Good Job Marthinus in your reasearch to find this out.

Sorry to be competing against a fellow BF member !!! Kinda surprised I got it at the price I did. It is sweet and one of the good ones. I plan on keeping this one and am going to send it in for double studs. I know the double studs are kinda hard to open on the small regulars since the clip kinda gets in the way ( it does for me anyways ), but hey, they look cool :)

Hi guys. I did not even notice it was the same person  but glad I could have helped! :) I actually remembered the thread and saved it years back when it first came to light. Just had to delve into my files and found it.

It went for $411....WOW. Hope the buyer is happy with it. Saw it go down into the $360's last night, then back up a little. Probably several BF members saw this and withdrew their bids. Which you can do since item is not as stated/described.

There's a lot of crap happening on ebay. I bid and won on an auction entitled "Reeves Fighter" last month. It's a NR that was advertised as new/unused. When I got the knife, it had clearly been used, with moderate abrasions on the Gunkote to attest to this fact. I contested the condition, and the seller agreed to reversed the transaction. The seller's now restarted the auction, once again has advertised it as new/unused, but this time has increased the price. Intentional, poor integirty behavior.

Hey Guys, Im the one who won the auction in question. my reasoning behind this is that 1 I get a fairly highly sought after Classic handles and also a dicontinued regular blade profile. I can purchase a new classic blade from CRK while giving me a spare regular blade.

Well I guess as long as you know what your getting into then its ok. Although seller should have been more forthcoming with information he knew but didnt want to release.

I think that was our whole point...!!! When plainly asked about the blade, he plainly lied about it. Had a newbie crk fan bought it not knowing, then had issues, the warranty is voided and he would have not known. Like I stated previously, if some guys wanna swap blades and keep the knife, all the power to them, but don't do it then pass it off as new or has been in dresser drawer since bought new full well knowing the blades were swapped.

agreed... before I made my bid I talked to Heather and she told me the blade profile of the classic and 21 are identical, so I can order a classic blade and have a spare regular blade (which CRK no longer makes). so for me (definately a CRK noob) it was a good purchase. My CRK collection will now consist of 1 large Classic, 1 large Regular (BG-42) and 1 large 21, next I have to work on the smalls of each.:)

I'm actually glad that you got the knife rather than someone who is less informed. You made a decision based on all the facts, and I can't find any fault with that whatsoever. The seller, on the other hand, is still on my list.....

Your instincts proved correct DallasSTB.

Excellent detective work by you and others here on the Chris Reeve forum.

Yes, Thank you DallasSTB, it feels much better going into a deal knowing exactly what you are getting. Thanks to your warning!

There is something bothering me and no one else picked it up......the blades were swapped back in 2008, never used (why then even swap it?), where is the other knife floating out there that has the classic blade?

Actually, I did a quick run through of his Seller feedback history on Ebay and there wasn't any obvious mention of selling a "Regular" Sebenza since 2008. I suppose I could google-stalk him, but honestly don't have the time or energy. I'll just remember the name, and I suggest people here do the same.

Now if you guys want a real gem in the rough, check this out. I'd go for it myself, but I'm in the negative right now, $$-wise. Not going to post any links to the auction site, but you guys should be able to find it quickly enough. If you read anything I've written about older graphic Sebenzas, you'll know who the artist was..

maybe the reason he swapped the blades in the first place was for the classic blade in the regular handles, so he is using that knife and he unloaded the combination that he didn't want of the swap on ebay

True that piece of common sense left me....
