"...because man cannot live on Becker alone!"

Cool, I got a Sewing machine so I went to a local store that sells tactical nylon (If thats what you want to call it) and made the backing, it works damn good and it stiff....

This is too funny. Earlier in that thread I had typed out a reply that said "I had an idea: What about somone get some tactical nylon and a sewing machine and MAKE some simple backs to replace the flimsy part of the BK2 sheath?"....and then I thought "Duh, thats a little obvious" and didn't post it. And here thats exactly what you did. Ever think about doing another one for some $$$?

i'm a big fan of Fallniven. they're great stuff. i ALSO like Mora, Helle, and EKA. fantastic knives. i have more than a few of those as well. yeah, shock? i don't just collect Beckers. i know, right?

a couple of the larger Helle belt knives typically adorn my hip at all times, esp the one with the fancier sheath, and handle trimmings. a gentleman's knife, that tends to disarm by looks alone. it's not black, or tactica lookingl, is warm and friendly, and the sheeple tend to leave their sheepdog alone more often than not. course, they don't know that for every knife (or velociraptor) you see, there's six hiding here and there. hah.

And going from a 1/4" thick BK2 to a 7" BK7 leaves a BIIIG gap where most mid-sized Bushcraft/Survival knives fall into. Thats what I mean by "Limited"

as for "limited", i see what you're saying... at least if you measure with a ruler, but in practice, i do not REALLY see or feel the burning need to have that option. i've been going from large khuks to smaller pocket knives for so long, and hitting the middle with Beckers and such, that i don't think in term of inch by inch, but more like palm widths :>

i'll happily use a BK5 where some people might be using a mora. just a matter of what i have on hand, and am too lazy to go fetch, or have brought with me.

probably the best kit i have is a combo BK4 Machax + BK11 classic-necker with micarta + BK13 Remora. Covers many bases. I don't feel like there's a gap of note between the BK4 and BK11, as the BK4 is my do all, except for say, fine tasks. needing a specific 4.95 inch bushcrafter never occurred to me before i saw all the discussion ;)

I would if you really wanted one that bad, I think you would be better off saving some more money and getting a nice leather shealth.

The material actually is kinda expensive, just PM me if you want one and we can discuss it more........

Can't PM...I am a lowly non-paid member. Since you mentioned leather though, that gives me an idea. My grail knife, the BHK PLSK-1 has a kydex/leather hybrid sheath which is suh-weet!. If that stuff is pricey, it would probably be just as easy to have a leather back screwed onto it. Should be really simple. Maybe Nick would be interested in a prototype...

OK...I think I just found my "Grail-Replacement" that will satisfy me outside of a BHK PLSK-1....AND not cost as much. Someone mentioned "Bark River Knives" and I just saw the Bravo-1 and Bravo-2 knives. Love the '2 but the big knife place is firmly held by the BK9. However this Bravo-1 knife is SUHWEEEET!!! MUST HAVE THIS!!

If you like the Bravo series check out the Bark River S-T-S-8

I've just recently picked up 2 of those Bark River Aurora knives. I am pleased and I have been using one of them quite a bit.

I just picked up the Nov 2011 copy of Tactical Knives. On page 7, there is a full page Tops Knives adv. There is one called "Eagle's Shadow" that looks promising as a HD bushcraft knife. Also the "Alaskan Harpoon" & maybe the "Shango XL".

TOPS are overpriced and over-hyped. They have some awesome blade designs...but sometimes function definately follows form with them. Many of their "features" end up being counter-intuitive, or just for show (with some half-witted explanation on how everyone needs a combination drawknife, guthook, nail-puller, masscara brush). That all being said, if i had the disposable income (whats that?) to spend on a functional movie-prop, I definately would. Sweet looking blades, but I think there are alot tougher, stronger, better-designed knives out there for a third of the cost of a cheap TOPS.

Tactical Operators trust TOPS....their website clearly says so.

I dont like most of them. But there are a few that look interesting and made of materials everyone agrees on. But I doubt I'll go that way.

I have a new Swamp Rat Ratmandu. I really like it but I don't trust it to do what a BK-2 can do. But it rides my belt when I am home as my home invasion insurance.
