Becker and a Burrito

I think some people taste cilantro as soap. They have slightly different taste receptors for cilantro. It's all good. I don't much think I would like the taste/idea of haggis, but a whole country would disagree with me on that.

I don't have a particular thing for cilantro, added/not added is ok with me I suppose. I just thought it was a bit weird that someone was so passionate about not eating it, LOL.

I know what you mean AIG. Of course, while not passionate about it, I do horribly detest seafood (fresh water fish is ok). Having said that, I have had some saltwater fish that I did not know was saltwater until after I was done and I liked it. It's the smell of the ocean part that makes me nearly throw up. To me ALL seafood taste and smells like a fishing wharf so it's hard to enjoy seafood restaurants and any type of seafood. Which is odd, because my wife's favorite seafood place is Red Lobster.

I get what you mean about the seafood thing. I'm a flatlander from a landbound state. You have to travel at least 1000 miles from where I live to find any Ocean/Gulf waters. I will only eat fish if I catch it/clean it and see the fish. I do, however, love crab meat. Take your crab legs. Melt a little butter in a pan and add a little olive oil and about 2 teaspoons of Old Bay Seasoning. Fire up the grill. Meanwhile husk some fresh sweetcorn. Put the sweetcorn and crab legs on the grill and brush liberally with your butter mix. Enjoy.

Some people say cilantro tastes like soap; my wife equates it to eating dirt.
To me, it tastes fresh and herby, with a little pungency. I love it on carnitas, or mixed with white rice. Lots of other ways, too. Raw, or lightly sauteed.

As far as old, wharfy seafood - that because it's old and/or frozen. My mom used to make trout and cod like that - and I thought I didn't like fish.
I imagine it's difficult, being land-locked, but if you get out to a coast and are able to order quality, fresh, never frozen, line-caught-today seafood you'll be amazed how un-fishy it can taste.

Great. Now I want cilantro and lime on some fish tacos.

Cilantro is an acquired taste. I hated it until I started working in a global cuisine restaurant and on of the things I would make in the morning was mango black bean salsa for our Chilean Sea Bass and fish tacos. After that I was able to appreciate cilantro for a lot of things and now I can't make tacos or carnitas without it and some mango. I make the fish tacos with either tilapia or cod.

Those sound like amazing tacos. I make my own taco shells by frying corn tortillas in a little peanut oil, flipping and folding in half. Place onto some newspaper and salt. I need to make a video of this. With a Becker.

As far as cilantro being an acquired taste, I loved it from the beginning, some people hate it from the beginning. I think some people really do taste it differently than I do.

My mother in law says cilantro taste like soap.. I love the stuff and put it in most dishes. Down here in northern Mexico, Tex-Mex is the main staple and most of it has cilantro in it :)

Only thing that makes me go crazy like Orca8589 is beans in the chile... chile does not have beans in it :D

you got that right - there is chili, and there is chili-flavored stuff with beans in it.
as to cilantro (and ginger, even though it's not been part of the discussion yet) some folks taste it as soap, some don't -- for me, it depends on the variety, type of soil it was grown in, and how old it was when harvested.
chimi-churri would not be the same without it.
