Becker BK-2, ESEE 5, or ESEE 6?

If knowing what someone wants to do with a knife before I recommend one is weird, then yes I do. I'd rather ask than make a random suggestion based on what I think an OP is asking for. (Or just blurt out the same knife for every thread.) As a knife user and enthusiast, I happen to think not all knives are the same.

Yup, and a decent hatchet or small axe. A folding saw makes a big difference also. If going light I will just carry my E6 or BK-2 and a fire kit. I carried a BK-2 through the bush all summer and fall once. I could care less if someone else hates it.

I have used big choppers and little knives, parangs, hatchets, saws-you name it. Just had to try something different and pared up with a SAK or small fixed blade the hawk is quite versatile.

It's not in your choices but has been mentioned, the ESEE 4. It can baton (although I'd use an axe if I even needed to split wood to begin with) you get a little more reach than the Esee 3 and it's slightly thicker but overall it doesn't take up much more room.

If I was going to pick a chopper that was built like I tank I'd pick the Esee 5. By the time you pick up micarta scales and a decent sheath for the bk2 it'll cost about the same if not more and you'll have a little less reach.

Something else to consider is to attach a victorinox or multitool to your big blades sheath for finer tasks. Or just carry one on your person.
