Hi, I'm new here, so if this is in the wrong spot, my apologies.
I just got a new bk2 and I'm a bit dissapointed, it would appear that
as production of these knives increases, there are short cuts being taken.
The knife I recieved has a rough textured finish, not the smooth black finish
on the ones I've seen before. I guess not a big deal, but it looks a bit cheap.
Also the logo and model stamp are not stamped anymore, but looks like it was
masked off before the finish was applied, again not a horrible thing, but not what I
thought I was buying.
That being said, I'm still pretty happy with it.
Any thoughts on this?

I was always tough that You get what you pay for.

If you want better F&F, find a knife so finished.

I always placed cutting performance and toughness over any cosmetic issues.

That change went into effect some time ago. The non-stamped finish actually increases toughness since the stamping creates a potential stress zone.

I have every bk2 version that has been made.I think the finish on the last becker is tougher than the smooth black. But i wished it was stamped. As far as i know this is the bk2s 4 gen.

Yeah I agree about the stamping, the new finish does look more durable, I just like the looks of the old finish better.
I'm an old timer, and hate change!

While the smooth older coating on the Gen2 BK-2 was nice as far a cutting performance, during use it flaked off the knife like a prom queen's skirt. Also a roll stamped logo weakens the blade and can cause slight bending. If you find the coating too rough I have seen a few folks take some high grit sandpaper to it and smooth it out.

Those aren't shortcuts. The new coating is there for better durability and the logo is now laser etched rather than roll-stamped. There are several benefits to this. If you don't like your new one, send it to me and I'll send you my older one. The coating on mine is worn and I have convexed the edge but the knife will outlast both of us.

The beauty of the Beckers IMO is they are not so expensive that you cannot modify them to your taste. Head over to the Becker sub forum and check out some of the mods. You indeed do have a very good knife.

I appreciate all of the responses, don't get me wrong, I love it,
the damn things a grizzly bear. I trimmed the top of the sheath down
some and now it pops in and out with no effort at all, nice!
Sewed some heavy plastic into the nylon hanger to stiffen it up,
and I'll put some sort of pouch on the front, after all, it's the law!
Nothing at all wrong with the factory sheath. Good ta go!
