So, I have had my bk2 for some time now and I love it! BUT I have one issue. No matter what I do, the screws that hold the scales on keep rusting. Anyone have the same issues and have any solutions?

a dollup of vaseline into the holes, or some oil. i dont have much problem

Best thing to do is to replace them with stainless. The black oxide finish of the stock bolts will develod surface rust quite easily. I believe someone said that a bit of wax would help.

I would like to find brass nuts and bolts. black scales and brass hardware would look nice. IMO

No imperial hardware anywhere in europe. If you find some tell me, if not i have a spare set of scales, I can coat the screws fromt those with some stuff called "Antikurit" that we have at work, is supposed to make them not rust. If you're interested, write me an email and we can see how we'll get those to you.

Hey Meat if you want some stainless I can send you some bro...

Yeah, they rust. :D I just let mine go, hit it with some mineral oil, and keep trucking.

Good luck, brother, post up and let us know what you go with.

take them out, spray paint them with rustoleum, and then black, or combine both.

or replace with stainless, and paint black if you want (or other funky colors)

bolts are cheap, but you can treat them for lots of things...

I was thinking of picking up a set from McMaster-Carr. Ka-bar told me that the stock hardware is stainless, but it rusts obviously very easily. I think I will pick some new hardware up and paint it.

For future references in my research I found the dimensions somewhere. Ka-bar refused to tell me.

#10-24
5/8"

On McMaster-Carr they off 18-8 SS hardware. Is that resistant enough? They also have flat head hardware too. I would like to get some of those pretty micarta scales and slap them on there. I'd love to post a link to what I am talking about but their site is flash based so I can't do that.

Not that I am arguing, but I have heard that the BK2 Micarta scales have had issues because they don't come with their own hardware and that they are slightly thicker so stock hardware can't be used. I guess this has been fixed?

Micarta scales come with their own stainless hardware, AFAIR.
Is this new?

I've also heard this.

Edit:

I'd love some if somebody is feeling generous? I'm in Germany also.

Never had a problem with fit for micarta. I think the hardware fitting issue your talking about pertains to the hex holes for the nuts, they are always a lil snug and don't just drop in like on the grivory, but a couple of turns with the bolt and it pulls em right in. Stainless stuff doesn't come with it or tomars owes me a few sets of stainless hardware. I found my stainless on the bay, since I didn't know the size and that was easier at the time. Now I go to the hardware store. It costs like a buck fifty, plus I get to chat with the old dudes that hang out at the mom and pop hardware store all day. That's a big f u home depot

Well that settles it then. For the others in Europe you can google "McMaster-Carr". They have all the selection you want plus good prices and ship international. Now, its your turn to tell me where to buy the micarta scales for the BK2 in Europe. :)

The price for some of their higher end hardware is 5 USD or so for 25 which is about 3.50, plus shipping then that damn 20% VAT. I miss the US!

Thanks for the help guys

Glad you found some stainless. Stock hardware fits the micarta, like Clich said, the hex nut holes are snug, but they will fit.

Also, the hardware sizes can be found in the FAQ that Bladite made.

As ridiculous as it sounds, I've been polishing the hardware on 1500-2000 grit and it's been all good for me since June.
