Becker BK-7

Darn it guys. Because of this thread I just spent money I don't have on a BK9 and a Necker. Really feeling a love/hate thing right now.

By the way, does the BK7/9 sheath allow you to strap it to your leg so it doesn't bounce around?

Congratulations on the new Beckers! It's money well spent, and you'll love 'em in the end.

I believe there are two holes in the bottom of the sheath that you could use to strap it to your leg.

Let us know what you think once you get them.

Great review Misty.... :)

Any reason you picked the BKR-7 over the BK-2 or BKR-9?

Thanks MC, glad you liked the review, it's a great knife to work with.

More my size for everyday use...and the tip. I like them all a lot but I really like the size of and the tip on the 7.

I had meant to add these to give some perspective to the BK13. Here it is in hand, I hope to get to work some with it this evening or tomorrow.

Good pics of the BK-13, mistwalker. I didn't realize that it was that small (I don't have one yet). Either that, or you have really, really big hands.

Well...I.ve been told my hands aren't exactly small...and have fat fingers...a lifetime of working with my hands I suppose.

Here a just a few quick pics from this evening of some tip work with the BK-7 boring a hole through some seasoned Hickory, and then some firecraft with the BK-13.

The tip handled boring a penny sized hole through this piece of seasoned Hickory, which is rough 5/8 inch thick, very well and showed no signes of wear or edge reduction

The BK-13 handled making fatwood shavings and shavings from a Sycamore limb very well and the spine is "square" and sharp enough to scrape fine fatwood powder with. So far this little knife handles well for it's size. I think it will be quite a handy little tool to have along.

Nice pictures, mistwalker. Seeing the BK-13 next to your fire steel gives a good indication of size. Looks like it would be really useful for tasks that the BK-7 is just to big for.

Just remember that is the "Army" model not the smaller one. I think the BK13 will be very handy.

Ya know, sometimes in life there are things that come along which the more you play with them the more you like them. This BK7 is one of those things for me. I was just handling it out on the porch earlier, changing grips and just checking it out in hand a little, and realized just how much I really do like the shape of the handle. It’s just as comfortable in a reverse grip as it is in a standard one. And once I got the thong where I wanted it one position it was perfect for all the others.

Yep.. not only is it a kick butt utility/survival knife (as your pictures very much prove to be true), but it is a killer (no pun intended) combat knife. Huh.... makes you wonder why Ethan named it the way he did :)

Say mist.. how'd you like the edge retention on the BK13

I'm still learning...haven't dulled it yet though.

My favorite Becker is still my very first - a Magnum Camp I bought back around 1998 or 1999.

The BK7 is #2. I find the 7" blade length very useful.

I don't have any of the new KaBar Beckers yet, but my first one will most likely be another BK7.

I had never seen the Magnum Camp till I just looked it up.ice design, I wonder if they make those again.

I bought one of these several years ago to give to my son who was going to the sand box. The Army wasn't happy about the size so I kept it and bought him the crewman. I carry it strapped to the roll bar in my jeep for my just in case knife. If I was still hiking (getting to old) I am sure it would be my on by side or attached to my pack.

Hey mist... Done anything new with the BK7 lately?

Nope, been too busy the last few days, rough days at work lately. I'll try to get it back out next weekend. I want to try it out on some trap triggers at some point.
