Hello All,

I just received my very first Becker BK7 yesterday and am in love with it, so much so that I already went ahead and ordered a Bk2 to go with it. I would like to upgrade the scales on them but all I have found are the factory micarta scales and I'm not sure about micarta (never had any experience with it). I do have other knives in my collection that have G-10 and I really like the material but I can't seem to find anywhere online that offers a G-10 scale for the Becker series. I was hoping someone could point in the right direction to a sight that sells them or maybe a custom maker that can make them for a reasonable price Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could post a want ad in the craftsman services section. Other than that I've never seen a large scale maker of G10 scales for BKT knives. I wouldn't mind a set either, that would be sweet on the BK-14.

Wow never even thought of G-10 and its one of my preferred materials for folders good Idea  I'm sure you could find someone to make you a custom set (or go about doing it yourself) but like RB said I've never seen any large scale production either.

P.S. Welcome to the Becker Wing of the Asylum I hope you have the funds for the addiction! :D

If you haven't tried micarta, I can wholeheartedly recommend it for the Becker knives. It's GREAT material. It comes a little bit rough from the factory from CNC cutting - that's intentional to provide traction - but I usually give them a once over with some 400-600 grit sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges. KABAR Becker micarta is some of the best micarta in the industry in my opinion. Heads and tails above the stuff that Ontario uses.

Give it a shot. I recommend ordering from the-knife-connection.com. Dale is a member here and a great guy. He also free shipping, and almost always ships out the very next day, priority mail. If you decide you don't like the micarta, you can easily sell them to another member here. Every Becker I own has been upgraded to the micarta... and it's the only thing keeping me from buying the rest of the tweener knives(factory micarta is due out early 2013 for the tweeners, i think.)

If you really have your heart set on G10, there are a few guys here that do some. CamH_16 did a really awesome set on his customized BK-7, but I don't think he offers it as a service/product.

Here are a couple shots of the micarta on my Beckers.

Thanks! It really did turn out very nice. Mostly just luck I think, but it's definitely one of my favorite Beckers. Need to get some Sagewood pants for it though. That will really set it off.

If anyone gets G-10 scales made, please post pics and a review. I would really like to get a set but not if it's gonna cost as much as a new knife. :D
Gotta keep funds available for a BK-10 & a 24 & a bunch of other stuff I'm sure. :D!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone, I was looking more at the Kabar micarta scales and they look much lighter in color than Uncle Malice's. Are the scales in your pictures treated with something Uncle Malice? I looked at the Knife Connection and they are listed as green canvas micarta and look much lighter than yours.

I love the factory micarta, but I would love some orange G10 for my Beckers.

Yes! I loves me some G-10! I wouldn't mind having a set of black and OD green tiger stripe for my 9

The micatra will darken from use however some people do oil or dye their handles. If you're still set on G-10 I think your best bet is to do what RougeBowie said and post an ad in the Services section of the BF exchange. If not, I give the Ka-Bar micatra another vote, I was really skeptical about it at first but after I got my first pair...Wow, that stuff is awesome.

I used to want G10 scales for the Beckers I have, but after I got Micarta, it feels great. If you are looking for someone to make custom G10 with some sort of grip pattern, I seriously advise against it because it will kill your ability to chop with the knife should you need to do so. Plus, if you wanted to get a custom sheath done, it means the sheath maker has to have the knife, which I hate because of problems with shipping in general (damage, theft). You could get Micarta, which is just as strong, looks beautiful and functions great! Also, the Micarta scales run about $40, and custom G10 will be at least that!

Not dyed, just used. They come in that greenish tan color but turn to the reddish color as they absorb the oils and dirt in your hands. The even darkness of the scales on the 7 I helped along a little bit by getting my hands dirty and rubbing my hands on the scales a bit.. I also put a dab of gun oil on my finger and rubbed them down before going out and using them. Now they are a smooth, even reddish brown color. I normally really like the green micarta like that which comes on the ESEE 5... but the well used reddish color of the KABAR micarta is probably my favorite.

Anyways... yep, those are factory scales, no artificial coloring... here are scales on my BK9 that I did dye with some green food coloring and a sharpie. :)

Those scales look badass, Uncle Malice. I like that.

I wonder if the Knife Connection guys could be persuaded to do a run of Becker scales in G-10. Full-sized and for the Tweeners. I like both the factory and Saint's micarta, but TKC's G-10 stuff for the Esee's looks great and is waterproof. Man, some green/black and orange/black tigerstripe G-10 for the Tweeners would be sick.

I just sent off an email to The Knife Connection asking them about making some G-10 scales for the Becker line. We'll see what they say.

That's a good idea! I have TKC scales on my Junglas, ESEE-6, and one of my Izula IIs. Absolutely fantastic handles.

I go back and forth between micarta and grivory. I would like some textured G10 scales, but on a 3D pattern like the BKT handles, that would be HARD to do, and by that I mean expensive.

Once I get some time, I wanna do some texturing to my BKT Micarta like what Spartan does to their micarta.

Aye, right sexsay they are.

I'll second, third, etc. all the comments in favor of micarta scales on my Beckers. They're heavier than the original scales but not enough that I really care. In the pic, my Campanion ( pre-BK-2 era, I believe) has the Kabar scales. The black scales on the CU7 and the natural scales on the Divtul were made in my garage.

IMHO micarta is leaps and bound higher quality, better feel and far better looking than G10. G10 is basically plastic which is like the handles it comes from the factory with.
