Becker BK13 Scales?

RE: Man those are sweet Richard ...How exactly does the jig work if you don't mind me asking?

Hi, in the last picture you see a Aluminium guide screwed into the wood base, to the left the router cutter has a ball race on the bottom so it follows the Aluminum plate you then screw your rough cut scale to the Aluminium and run the router cutter around it and you end up with picture number one. All hand work after that.

Richard

Cool, great idea TB. I just screw the rough cut scales onto the knife and sand if from there but its not the best method since each set of scales pretty much ends up being custom made for that particular blade and non-transferable between different models. How long does it take you to blank out the scales and do the aluminum templates get worn down and have to be replaced eventually? Btw, I've seen some of your stuff on the Australian blade forums...Great work.

No the Aluminium guides don't wear unless you break a router bit by forcing the cut.
Time I am retired so I get to take my time now :-)doing a set of Izula2 scales this morning took about a hour but they have the big 14mm hole in the end and I needed to put them on the mill to drill.
I have to cut G10 with a hacksaw because my small wood band saw won't take it.

Richard

Oops forgot to say thanks for the comment about my work.

Are the izzy 2 scales those red and black ones? I'v seen them and they're pretty damn nice. Not super big on red and black but I still admire the OA craftsmanship...I use a re-enforced dremel cut off wheel for cutting out G-10 and micatra since it's much quicker than my shitty hacksaw haha.

Those dont quite look like skystorm sheaths...... nice blades tho

hahha no thats what they look like stock, going to post the same pic with the upgrades. How did that erik guy make my picture shownup properly? i tried a few different ways and doesnt seem to go on correctly when i try to post it.

Those are mine, I wanted a rugged look so I wouldn't be scared to use it.
The next set are for a customer black with a slight tinge of red G10 then a nice satin finish on the blade.

Jonathan, I went to the flicker site that wasn't working, clicked on the "share" link, and copied the html mess. Then pasted it in here, and deleted everything before and after the IMG tags that enclosed the actual jpeg. In all honesty, flicker makes it kind of hard, photobucket makes it easy, you might want to setup a photobucket gallery just for this forum, we seem to be visually fixated. :D

going to try this with photo bucket... hahah here is my stock bk7 and bk2.

i also modded the stock handles with a soldering iron and WOW, the amount of grip that it adds to the scales! tookm about 45 min to burn dots into both grivory sets but its a quick cheap mod to do to the handles and makes them look more rugged too. Im going to stick with my micartas mostly because i love the look of them but if any of you have your stock scales, give the soldering iron trick a try it works really well. I also have a black skystorm hawk sheath for myh bk7 and a brown sagewood randall sheath for my bk2. I'll get picks up of them soon. I purchased a blackhawk mount and im going to mod the stock bk2 sheath with that cuz the nylon on that sheath is pure garbage but the kydex is pretty cool. I'll keep you all updated.
