Becker BK16 FPR question

Has anyone stripped their BK16 FPR AND completely sanded away the etching on the blade? I've heard the etching is fairly deep and am wondering how well it can be removed.

I have not but i have toyed with the idea. I took a good look at mine and it really doesn't look to be THAT deep. Certainly not as deep as the roll stamp. So even with the sanding/grinding off of the etch I think the stamp would remain.

I stripped and sanded my 16 this afternoon. The laser etching was pretty deep. I guess I could have sanded the crap out of it for an hour or two, but I wanted it to look more rustic and not super-polished, so I stopped with only a perfunctory ten minute sanding.

Got pics up by any chance?

I will tomorrow. Probably in the afternoon. It looks good with the Cliching and the wood scales. :D

I've almost got it off. It's deep, real deep. I'm full convexing mine and I actually stopped because its noticeably thinner at the blade. Not a whole lot, just noticeably. I prob wont go any further. I will get pics up, but I still have a small bit of the FPR and about half the signature

Way to eff up a perfectly rare knife, SMKW. Dumbasses...How about printing out a certificate instead?

I pretty much sanded mine off there with very little effort. Of course the pnumatic sander i was using might have had something to do with that.

I'm gonna hand sand mine to preserve the signature, and then clich the flats, that way I get rid of the ugly FPR text and I get to save the signature.

Earlier today, I went over to my good friend, Bill Akers (Backwoods Custom Knives) shop, and had him perform his blade wizardry on my Becker FPR 16. The attached pictures are crappy and don't show the details well, but all I can say is that the "Convicious" convex that he put on this Becker is flat out, jaw dropping, amazing! The kick ass ergos of the 16 and the new convex edge allow my old, arthritic hands to easily do bushcrafting tasks!

that is staggering! literally made me drool some. oh gawd that treatment would look AWESOME on the 17! or 15, or 16.....or 2,3,4,5,7,9 etc etc!

What is the finish? or is it his secret? I would love to know the details on that blade work!
