Becker BK2 V.S. ESEE 5

Welcome to Bladeforums. This is your 10th post and you've already started 4 threads, when you could really just have done with one, at the most. Why don't you calm down a bit, have a look round the forum, there's lots of interesting stuff to read, and you may find the answers to all your questions are already there?

ESEEs are great knives. I'm not as keen on their handles though. I'd take the BK-2, though I'm a little partial. ;)

same dimensions, slightly different shape, different handle material, same steel, big price difference...BK2 for me

You have asked an excellent question. I have 2 Esee 5s and 2 BK2s. I have done a lot of cutting tests with each one, and each are as tough as a knife could get. Without telling you what you can already see, the Esee has a pointier tip, and the fit and finish is better than the BK2. However, for all around use, the Becker excels in my opinion due to the saber grind being closer to the spine than the Esee. The BK 2 is a better slicer ( if that's important to you ). Both my Bk2s are stripped of their original coating and one of my Esee's is stripped. If I had to pick one, based purely on performance, it would be the Becker BK2. For style points, fit and finish, the Esee is the clear winner. By the way, the Esee handles are too blocky for me, again in my opinion, so I went ahead and contoured them until I was happy. Another valid point is that if you bought a Bk2 and then bought the micarta handles, and a better sheath, then you are within striking range of the Esee cost. I don't think the sheaths that come with the Beckers are as bad as some people think, but truthfully, you are getting a better sheath with the Esee.
Hope that helps,
John

I found my local sharp thing emporium having a sale on the BK2 with the aftermarket Micarta handle - added it to my 'user' stash, joining my early RC-5 with it's original sheath. The BK2 is perfect as it comes - save your money - don't buy the aftermarket Micarta grips (You'll need longer screws, too, if you do buy them!). I bought my son a BK2 for Christmas - from a site better known for their books/e-books (They are $64 shipped there now!). Believe it or not, I had used the RC-5 (Now ESEE-5!) a bunch here - it's powder coat is tenacious. The BK2 has seen a lot more use since - and bears it's use appropriately. It seems to split wood more easily - perhaps the slicker finish helps. Both need a spot on their spine filed free of their respective finishes to strike a ferrocerium rod (Fire starter.).

If you want a looker - and likely won't be splitting wood as much - the RC-5/ESEE-5 is great. If you want a user - get the BK2 and use it with it's OEM grips. As others have stated, they are basically the same 5" x .25" blade of 1095 CS.

Indeed. I just posted something similar in another of your threads, and then checked out this one. Very similar stuff going on.

You need to figure out for yourself the "for what" part. Which is better? Better for what? Then we can answer.

I see we're now up to FIVE threads, all asking similar or identical questions. One 'If my mum ever lets me have a knife, what would be a good knife to get for bushcraft use?' would have been more than sufficient. Come on jwoelfert, play the game, you'll get a lot of help from people here, but there's no need to just keep posting threads because you're excited about your impending birthday. I'm sure you'll get your knife when your parents consider you can behave with maturity.

Esee-5 is a better deal. You'll spend as much or more for the Bk-2, new handles, new sheath, and Esee warranty's is the best

I don't know if it is possible to prove one is clearly better than the other. They are slightly different in styling and price depending on what you want. Pick the one that you like and/or can get easiest and be happy with it.

How many times are we going to beat this to death ?

They're both "the same thing only different."

But if you have to have one, save some money and get the BK 2

THEN if you want a knife that really works, get a Bk 7 :D

Dollar for dollar, one of the best knifes out there. JMHO

I'm sorry for posting so many threads, but whats the problem of posting multiple threads even if the questions are similar? Does it harm other users? Jack Black was complaining about how many threads I was creating

, while in another one of my threads marcinek claims I am asking too many questions,
"Here's my advice.

Slow down!

Too many random questions about random knives at the same time.

Here's what you can do to help us help you.

1) Define exactly what you mean by "survival/bushcraft". Right now those are just meaningless buzzwords spat out by marketing departments. What do you really, honestly expect to do with this knife? You need to know that....we need to know that.
2) Tell us how much you want to spend on your knife.

Answer those 2, we should be able to go somewhere.

Decaf might help, too."

I'm getting conflicted answers and i don't know how to please anyone on this forum. I'm sorry, i'm new to this, but is posting similar threads such a crime? Jack Black and marcinek aren't the only ones complaing about this, there were multiple others. To all of those who simply answer the question and help me out, I really appreciate it.
