I just found BK7's and 9s have been put up on NGKs, and this is the detail info with the BK7 and BK9

"Ka-Bar Becker BK9 Combat Bowie plain edge Fixed Blade. Features a 9 1/8" black coated plain edge blade. Full tang construction. Includes a satin finished BK13 plain edge fixed blade utility knife which is 5 1/4" overall. Heavy duty black nylon belt sheath carries both the large and small knife. Sheath also has extra pouch for small gear.."

What's that all about? I've never even seen a BK13. At the price, thats a heck of a deal!

This is strange. I've never heard or read of a BK13, and it couldn't find it in any other description of both of these knives. Fascinating...

Hey Everyone...

The BK13 REMORA is a design I have been kicking around for some years now......It was designed as a neck knife and is a very handy little blade....Several months ago, when I first showed it to Paul and John at Ka-Bar they really liked it and John suggested we have a bunch made up as a "gimme" to our wonderful customers and I said Yeah, alrighty then and GOOD IDEA John......We had this first batch made in the orient (which is why they are maked Ka-Bar, rather than BK&T), with the idea being if you guys really like'em we will do a USA made one somewhere down the line.....I have always liked the idea of two knife sets...obviously too much childhood time spent with the old PUMA catalog and also wondering why them little knives in the kookrie sheath were really not all that usefull....Anyway I hope you all enjoy the gimme and give me feedback on the design.....By the way I find that the smaller the knife the more difficult it is to make it all work right which is why I am stll consumed with admiration for Rob Simonich's incredible little BITTERROOT which is the distlled essence of knife....If you do not know it check it out......

All Best....

You're being too modest, Ethan ... your BK11 (I have three of the Camillus-made) is an absolute work of genius. By far the best ergonomics I've ever found on a small, skeletonized handle knife, cuts with the comfort and power of many full-handled blades.

Hey Dog of War......

I am really not trying to be overly modest....Rob's little guy is TINY and it works!!!! ....Thank You for your praise of the BK11 NECKER....I AM damn proud of that one!!!!..

Hey Jake & rlarge....

I am glad you like the idea...... I am getting a few to have Kydex sheaths made for...I keep worrying that the original proto in Talonite(made by the esteemed Darryl Ralph) will get lost if I keep wearing it !!!

Thanks Again...

Ethan, what is the blade steel in that little guy? What's it compared too? I reckon the blade is just a little over 2"?

Hey Guys....

I do believe Morales is correct....Thanks for answering the question.....

Just received mine today. Havent cut anything other than a cardboard box, knife was sharp out of the box and has great ergos. The piggybacked necker was an awesome bonus. Necker is pretty thick stock as well. Sheath seems adequate. For the price this package was a solid value. Ill know more when I put it through its paces. Not crazy about the handles however. I would love for some custom scales, they would be easy as these screw right on and off. I know there are some craftsmen on this forum, anybody planning on making some?

for Ethan- Please make the BK-13 out of the same steel as the big knives. Also, can you post a photo of the BK-11 and BK-13 together? Ethan thank you for your outstanding service to all us knife nuts. Keep up the great work.

Hey Francis & Fudo....

There will be Micarta scales at some point...We are talking a few months not years...I doubt that you will be able to wear out the Grivory (Paul just corrected my spelling) grips....I hope you enjoy your field testing and am looking forward to your impressions...

As soon as I get this photo posting thing figured out I will be happy to oblige and THANKS for the kind words.....

All Best...

I think getting a free knife if pretty cool although I have to admit I find it strange that it's made overseas. China?
Some people pay more for American made knives because they are made in America. These people may not want a knife made overseas, even if it's free.
Just a thought. Personally, I'll be happy with the free knife.

Hey AF.....
I am very happy that you brought this up......Nobody who gets one has to keep it....It is a little gift...If it offends there is always the trash bin......Personally I wish we could have done it here and still given it away but, among other little problems, Ka-Bar would have had to order enough 1/8 in. steel to make a blue bizillion of them..about two centuries worth.....Subsequently we may have found some ways around that.....We figured we would rather do them overseas than not do it at all....

Personally I have knives made in a whole bunch of places, Switzerland, Thailand, Laos, Japan, China, The USA, Taiwan, Germany, Morrocco, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Norway, Sweden, Britain and the list goes on......I LOVE knives, axes, machetes,
tomahawks and swords and hatchets and I can not imagine limiting my collection to only domestically produced cutting tools.....Knives are art to me as well as artifacts and I certainly would love to own art by Rodin or Michaelangelo even though Rodin was a Frenchman and the big M lived in Italy.....I do admire people who act on their principles as long as it interferes not with my life...... I drive American trucks and operate an American bulldozer(yeah CAT!), but my American made Gators have Japanese engines, the tractor and rtv are Japanese but made in Alabama...Having said all this I WANT every BECKER knife to be made stateside.....The BECKER line is, with the exception of, the san mai NECKER and the little gimme REMORA, made in Olean, NY USA and all future fixed blades being contemplated will be made in the USA......I am very happy that you intend to enjoy your REMORA and I will be pleased to get your feedback when you have a chance to use it.....

All Best....

Ethan,
Thanks for the reply. Will the BK13 be partnered with the bigger blade indefinitely or is there a limited quantity to be shipped?
I just got the Kabar BK9 in the mail today. I also got the Necker. I have a Camillus BK9 but had never handled the Necker. They are both very nice. The edges are thin, the way I like them. Also the slabs on this Kabar BK9 fit perfectly whereas there are gaps on the Camillus version that I own.

Hey AF.....

I am glad your first impressions are good ones!!!!....Ka-Bar is REALLY picky and their quality has always impressed me....If you look at their Marine Combat v others, the differences in fit and finish are real obvious....

They bought enough REMORAs that I don't think that a permanent "partnering" decision will be made for a while....

I think you will find your NECKER one of your "go to" blades.....

Spark has, by the way graciously consented to letting BK&T have a home over in the manufaucturer section...... Come on over when you get the chance....Have fun with your new BECKERS...

All Best...

Hi all, this is my first post here, seeing this thread on the BK7/9 caught my eye, I've been shopping for some Becker knives, and I just placed an order at Tomars Kabars for the BK2, BK7, BK9, and BK11.:D (they also offer the BK3).

Their prices are good, with the largest offering of Beckers at the moment I can find, so if your looking...

Thank you Ethan for working so hard to get these blades back out there!

Thanks everyone for all the great info on this site, it helped me decide to buy a handful of Beckers, I can't wait to get that box open!

The only drag is I can't find a reasonably price BK10 anywhere.:(
