becker bk7 mod

For anyone still on the topic of Becker PSK's, I recently found that data card cases dremmeled out can make great cases for holding fish hooks, pins and other small things. They can then be slid down the back of the sheath between the nylon and the kydex insert.

If I'm not mistaken, I think it's a smoker.

Your welcome Will. Have fun with it and in the words of a wise guy, keep it simple..........;)

The BK7 makes a great survival knife. I use a BK9 myself, with a modified sheath kit. Here's what it looks like:

BK9Kit1.jpg

and the contents:

BKKit2.jpg

1. coil of paracord
2. BK9 sheath with Nite Ize pouch attached (including leg strap)
3. Leatherman Wave
4. Mix of strike anywhere and wind / waterproof matches in safe with attached striking surfaces
5. Allen key for BK9 handle
6. Fresh BK9 with a 'mini kit' in the handle (you should see what the coating looks like after two weeks in the mountains).
7. Ziploc bags wrapped around a piece of cardboard with wet-dry sandpaper glued to it (for impromptu sharpening), wrapped in duct tape.
8. As above, but with orange marker tape.
9. Altoids tin kit with band-aids, gauze, ziploc bags, small mirror, matches, safety pins, condom, some fishing line, and a few hooks.

This setup is intended for emergencies, and as a supplement to the supplies I carry in my pack. In the future, I think I'll put the Wave back into its belt sheath, and use the space it saves in the BK9 kit for a lighter and magnesium / steel fire starter.

All the best,

- Mike

I don't really know exactly what it does, but I have read that precautions should be used when working with it. The ones to ask would be the knife makers and maybe a couple will pop in and give you and us the right info.

The pouch of my Becker Crewman BK-10 contains a SAK Huntsman, Bic, LED keychain light, and ceramic sharpener. Don't forget that there's some hollow space under the handle slabs too - I was thinking of stuffing a few hooks, sinkers, and some line in there (and adding the right hex wrench to the pouch).
