Becker BK7 or Rat 7

All responses on this thread seem one sided. I like the rat 7 (mine is in d2). Fit and finish is very good with no issues of micarta not lining up with the tang. fit and finish is much better than ontarios spec plus line. You are paying about the same to get the Becker with micarta, and both sheaths are workable and upgradeable. I don't think the bk7 is a worse product, just want to give the rat some support. I have a bk9 and machaxe and like them equally compared to rat 7 and rtak2.

Cant blame them though, he asked the question in a Kabar forum, and the BK7 is a kick ass knife.

Have em both and only use the BK7 these days. I prefer the feel of the BK grips over any others out there.

I'd go for the Ontario RAT-7. I have used one, and used it hard, for several years now. The steel, in my case, D2, is superb, the edge retention excellent, and the handle is very comfortable.

All the becker fan boys are going to push their pet product, but the Ontario blade is just plain better than the BK7 :D

Umm, no it's not. The bk-7 is bigger and cheaper. sorry to bust yo bubbles, but the 7 wins this battle hands down.

D2 is way to hard (and thus brittle) a steel for hard use wood work. Too too too many fail videos floating around that prove it. If your gonna get a RAT 7 then the 5160 is the way to go. Fan boi or not the handles are more comfortable period. Although I'd love to see the bk7 is 1/4".

I'm a fan of both blades and I think you might want to consider your needs and then analyze the two blades. It looks like the bk7 has a saber grind vs the rat7's flat grind. bk7 has an unsharpened swedge and the rat7 has a slight drop. I'm sure the rat's handle will be comfortable enough, but the bk7's handle does look more comfortable.

Also you might want to consider the esee 6, it's a little shorter then the rat7 and is made by Rowan if i'm correct. Ethan Becker and Doug Ritters collaboration knife is also made by them. ESEE costs more then Ontario and Beckers, but might be very well be worth it. You can google and find ESEE's forum and ask this question there too.

In terms of value, there's no question bk all the way

I don't have a BK7 but I have a BK9 and BK2 and they are great. of those 2 I would get a BK7.
