I received the BK7 last week, and finally got around to trying it out.

I was asked why it was still black, and this is why.

I tested this straight from box, no modding, no stripping, no sharpening, in stock sheath. I didn't even snug up the handle screws (they are usually not quite 100% snug).

First, the sheath. They have changed slightly, and for the better.

MOLLE back

velcro/snap belt loop

100_2752-Copy.jpg

velcro on the handle snap..so it fits better, as snug or loose as you need.

100_2754.jpg

Elastic on the pouch, snugs it down nicely (BK13 not included, sold separately)

Pristine. The F&F was great on my example, nice edge, pretty sharp, I could shave with it.

I needed a good baton..so I crossgrain batoned thru this very very hard ancient oak table leg.

100_2578.jpg

Job well done, uh-oh...I marred the coating!
100_2580.jpg

Did a lil chop test on the hard oak, the 7 performed very well...it's got a nice ''feel'' to it when chopping.
100_2581.jpg

Then I decided to make a ''one-stick, one-match'' fire.

Drug a piece of seasoned hardwood block from the woodpile (at least 9 months old)

After all the batoning, the 7 was still more then up to do fine work..edge is holding up very well.

My Dad's Ol Reliable, he had this made when in the very early '80s..makes the BEST hamburgers!

100_2597.jpg

gettin a lil more wore...

100_2598.jpg

makes a good grate-lifter

Success! The 7 was very handy during the whole process....just felt good. Performed admirably.

I wanted to test the 7 a lil harder...see if it was as tough as it's big brother, the King9.

100_2605.jpg

That's the longest, gnarliest, knottiest block I could find.

The 7 laughed at it, and went right through it like it was butter (I admit I was a lil impressed).

Decided I should test out the infamous Becker Pommel

I couldn't drive it any further with my baton, had to use the other heavy half of the batoned block with both hands to get it the rest of the way.

100_2627.jpg

100_2628.jpg

100_2629.jpg

Then I batoned it on down & out. Came out just fine....lil more coating is gone!

Still has a decent edge too
100_2630.jpg

Did some more chopping
100_2631.jpg

One strike

100_2632.jpg

Does extremely well for it's length and weight. Very nice.

Yes, batoning the swedge DOES tear up a baton something fierce.

100_2637.jpg

Time for some ''real'' testing. Had to clear the fencerow out of the horse paddock.

Before
100_2638.jpg

After
100_2640.jpg

Worked like a champ, I was cutting everything from saplings, limbs, vines, grapevines, thorn brambles, even some high grass. From stuff size of toothpick to size of my wrist. It worked very well on all of it......once again, I was impressed.

100_2639.jpg

100_2641.jpg

I did the other half a couple weeks ago with a machete...the BK7 was honestly just as handy/easy to use....did just as good a job as my 18'' machete.

100_2647.jpg

Battered but still Majestic on the brushpile.

100_2669.jpg

My Dad used it a bit to hack some weeds out of his beloved garden...
100_2670.jpg

That IS his happy face...he liked it. But said he would stick with a axe or his Stihl for heavy chopping LOL (He looked on while I baton tested the 7, I'm pretty sure he thinks I'm crazy)

100_2674.jpg

100_2680.jpg

End Results.

Me and the 7 took a well-earned Gatorade break at the end of the day.

But, can the BK7 be sexy??? We all know the King is sexy!

I think it CAN be!

100_2704.jpg

IN CONCLUSION-
I love the 9, I fully expected to be disappointed by the 7 in every way when comparing the two. After this test and use...I think the 9 may get kicked of my Starting lineup. The 7 is incredibly effective...and lighter/shorter to pack around. I really like it, sometimes the ones you least expect are the ones that win a place on your belt.
Makes me want to find a BK77 real soon!
Some random pics from my day at the farm.

100_2682.jpg

I bought both these last week, payed more for the 7 then the Mossberg LOL, it was beat to hell, wouldn't function.....lil TLC and it runs slicker then my other Mossbergs! I like it.

100_2687.jpg

Blackberries! Very early for them

The BK7 is now, and always has been my favorite (so far) of the Becker line up. Probably because it was my first, but it is still a capable tool!! Excellent review, TB! Great pics!

Yeah, great pics! I have to get a 7 next. I was saving for a 7 when the BK17 and then Machax came out and distracted me.Now that I have those I have to get back on track.

The 7 is a bad ass blade man very versatile, I like mine very much. Great pics man

Nice review thrill. I have always liked the looks of the 7, but never felt a need for it, having the 2 and 9.

Always good to see the 7 getting roughed up a bit.

No pics of you skinning them groundhogs? :D

I thought about it, but it was HOT and they were covered in ticks. It wasn't survival so I chunked 'em LOL

And for anyone who thinks I pointlessly killed some cute furry ewoks....you aint never seen or heard a cow/horse down with a shattered leg or hip from stepping in a 'hog or armadillo hole. They cost farmers a lot of money.

dude, nice photo set...looks like you beat the soul out of that 7 and it kept on going...cleaned up nice too..

also +1 for groundhog slaughter....they will damn sure screw up a garden...you should have them mounted holding your 9.

THRILL!
Awesome thread brother! Man, you beat the snot outta that BK7! Great thread, I wished I was there with you the whole time. Looks like a nice place to live.

Thats some really hard use there. Not surprised that you liked it. I love my BK7.

Hey! Nice post, don't have a 7 yet but looking at you working it like that has got me thinking. Looks like that 1095 was keeping it real, that's what I like to see. Always enjoy the pics of your farm. Hey that flower looks like something from the Allium family (onions, garlic).

Thanks, I think it was wild garlic but I didn't wanna guess...

The 7 is a dark horse, I bought it just so I could make sheaths really, but I had to use it...and now I like it, a LOT. I don't know if it'll replace the 9 completely but it for sure is gonna get carried a lot!
Makes me want the 12 even more, basically a 7 with a drop point? Heck yeah I can dig it!

You weren't kidding when you said you were going to test it out. Damn!!! So what's the top 5 favorite lineup now?

Top5? well, not necessarily for the same reasons...but my Top5 right now would be

BK9
BK7
BK14
BK5
BK2

Maybe not in that order. If you had asked me a few days ago what two Beckers I would keep if I had to choose...I would have said BK9 and BK14. Now I aint so sure I wouldn't say BK7 and BK14.

Nice torture test, Thrill. Very comprehensive. The only thing it lacked was a pork roast hanging from a line so you could get your Lynn Thompson on. :D Great pics, especially the after-stripping pic. You gotta send me that grivory to stipple. I wanna see what they look like on a 7.

I'm trying really hard not to buy one of these right now. I've been trying to save up for a TSD Combat Systems Glock 19 slide, but I really want a 7 now. It's been the one Becker I didn't think I needed, but maybe I'm wrong.

I think the lil brother will shock ya. I know you like ''fighting'' knives....the 7 is as strong as it's big brother but a lil more nimble...I think you could appreciate it's attributes. I'm very surprised myself how much I like it, and that's a 10-4 on the scales, that's on my to-do list ''Send scales to Dan for WasatchWoodpeckering''

WasatchWoodpeckering. Heh, heh. I like that.
