Becker BK9 & BK7 Availability????

Are the Becker BK7 & BK9 knives really getting hard to get? I have heard from several people that they are no longer made and supplies are drying up. I do not own any Becker knives but I would really like to have a BK9 as well as a BK7. I found a couple of them in the Metroplex this weekend but the guy was asking full retail $96 for the BK9 and $80 for the BK7. If they are truly unavailable or very hard to find I may go ahead and buy these two knives and just pay retail if I have to, but I would really rather not do that if I don't have to. Does anybody know of a place who actually has the BK7 or 9 in stock and is selling for decent prices? I have noticed that a lot of the online dealers show to have them on their websites but when you call they tell you they are out of stock and on indefinite backorder. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, can some please explain the difference between a BK9 and a BK9HH?

They are getting harder to find, though the pipeline on eBay is still churning some out, and probably will for a good while longer. I hope to spy a Brute on there at some point. You do have to be careful with who you buy from on eBay though. For example, I've read unflattering things about Cherokee Outpost selling knives that aren't in stock and issuing "backorders" that will likely never be filled.

I don't know of any mechants that currently have the BK-7 or BK-9 in stock, though I'm sure some exist. Just takes a lot of digging. Heck, because of a post here on BF, I actually found a BK-5 Magnum Camp that was still sitting in the display case of a knife dealer.

The BK-9HH (Hog Hunter) has a sharpened swedge for easier penetration as a "sticker."

I found a new BK9 in stock this weekend, the dealer was just asking $96 for it which I thought was a little high compared to what I have seen them advertised for on the internet. I guess it isn't too high if you really want one and nobody else has one though huh? This same dealer also has a BK7 and a BK10 in stock.

Prices are going to be higher if Ethan really has pulled the plug. Last couple of months, I've bought two or three Becker knives at higher-than-best prices because I was afraid that Camillus would put the brakes on the Becker line. Now, in retrospect, I'm glad that I did. However, I still think that there are some good deals out there.

Hmmm... didn't realize there was a BK9HH. Does the BK9 have a somewhat sharp swedge? I ordered a BK9 back in Oct from CRKS and noticed the swedge was sharp, but not quite as sharp as the blade. I'm at work now and won't be home till tomorrow so I can't check the box. Figures I find something(Beckers) I like and the company is down and out. The wife and I are having a son in a few days and money is tight so my hobby is on hold for God knows how long. I can't buy anymore right now. I decided to stow it away for him when he gets older. This one is staying clean.

I just bought a BK-7 for $49 from Universal Cutlery(E-Bay)...I get a lot of my knives from them and they always have the best price and good service too!!!

If the swedge is sharp, it's likely a BK9HH. Check the box label if there is one.

go to ebay there are a few there for about half of your listed price. Also tom from chestnut ridge knife shop on ebay is one of the best dealers I have ever done business with. no seconds and great prices. I think he might have a few of the hh's left.

Well, Tolly is a little slow on the email, so maybe he'll see this...

BK-7 ($50 Buy It Now) and BK-9 ($75 Buy It Now) just might be available on a certain auction site.

I've eyeballed that BK-9 more than once, but I have three regulars and a HH now. That's enough.

I've emailed Spark about BK-1 availability. Still waiting to hear back.

If I wanted a BK7 or BK9 I would buy those up. I am down to the BK2 and BK3 knives. I do have 1 or 2 each of the BK7, BK10, and maybe the BK77 (I will see at the end of the week on the BK77)

dingobubba,
That was a BK9HH that you got. I had some help in shipping and she didnt realize there was a difference. I did post this back a few monthes ago. I am sorry about that. One good thing is that you do have a nice knife to pass on to your son. As you could probably imagine I have a few knives put away for my son too.

A little bit of advice a knife collector once gave about collecting knives to give to your son or daughter; When they are ready to handle a knife, give them one of the knives put back on special occasions like Christmas, birthdays, ect... They will enjoy the collection part of it like we all do. If you just dump a bunch of knives on him/her one day the will not appriciate the value of the knives.

We all know how good it feels to finaly hold a blade that we have had our eye on for a while. Our kids (Wester Pennsylvania-ees for children) will enjoy collecting more if they experience it like we do.

CRKS-- Hey no problem. I was just curious sitting here at work. My first Becker and must say it's impressive. Very satisfied. Little tempting to go out and play with it, but I think it will be more satisfying some 15 years or so in the future when I can give him a non-used blade. Thanks again!

I bought a new BK7 for 37 bucks the other day (was the last they had in stock.) I missed a BK9 in an obscure listing on Amazon that was selling for 22. I'm sure you will find some in the coming weeks.

Just got a serrated BK2 off ebay for $42 with shipping. Mint, but no box. I hope no one here was bidding on it.............

I saw that one, Mountainwind. Good snag. I have two of the serrated BK-2 and really like them.

Just got a NIB BK-9 for $45 shipped in a private sale on another board. They are still out there. Haven't whacked anything with it yet, but what an great, hefty Bowie it seems to be. Makes me want a BK-7. :)

cheers
