I have plans to strip my 9 but got to wondering after seeing some threads here about the becker logo & etching would it be Becker blasphemy to not keep the logo's on my 9 ?
After all it is My Becker right.... and I have an idea that I haven't seen done here before for that logo location, not sure yet if it will work but looking into it.

what say you Beckerheads or even non-Beckerhead ?

This is my Becker. There are many like it, but this one is mine. My Becker is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. My Becker, without me, is useless. Without my Becker, I am useless. I must sharpen my Becker true. I must cut deeper than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must cut him before he cuts me. I will... My Becker and I know that what counts in this war is not the cuts we cause, the noise of our batoning, nor the smoke our fires make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit... My Becker is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its handle and its blade. I will keep my Becker clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will... Before God, I swear this creed. My Becker and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life. So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy.

That's right, the laser marks the steel surface. So if you are going to remove the logo, elbow grease is still needed.

I was under the impression that the newer Becker logo wasn't "into" the metal or stamped like the older Beckers.
How much sanding would it take to remove the laser engraved logo ?
I guess I'll be able to answer my own question once I strip the blade wont I.

It leaves a faded logo. When sanding the grind marks out of the blade most likely that will remove the rest of the logo, or with just some light use it will be gone. It does mark the surface but it is no where near as deep.

Hey leatherneck,i stripped an old army commemorative knife with similar etchin on the blade.once stripped and cleaned the design was still there (wich was cool in this case),not deep at all but looked like a ghost picture on blade.still tthere even after forced patina.

What grit would you recommend I use ?

Nah man, strip it and use it how you see fit. Personally I wouldn't etch in the logo either on any of the lazer'd ones.

I am proud to own Becker knives, and like to show them off.
If you are going to spend an evening stripping your blade and do any kind of sanding why not spend the extra 10 minutes etching the logo's deeper. I mean you can still beat the snot out of them.
Just my opinion.

I didn't etch the logos on this knife before I stripped it. The patina is sort of earned (cutting meats and fruits) and forced (the spots are from salted mustard)

The ones I stripped the logo is still very visible but mine don't have patinas or anything, just bare nekkid steel.

If anything, it would be sacrilege to keep a feature you don't like just because you think you have an obligation to.

I like the logos on most of mine. But there are some that I don't want any markings on. It's all personal preference. You like them, etch them. You don't like them, don't etch them.

Also for me, it's that one little extra step that just adds a little character to the blade. Almost all the videos I've seen on the net of people stripping there Beckers, they do not etch them.
Either they don't care about it or it is a step that most are unaware off, so I't may add a little value to you knife? Maybe not? IDK. HAHA Who cares really? That is the beauty, we actually have the choice now as to wether we want logos or not! We did not get that option in the past.

And I've mentioned in other posts, most of my first Beckers were roll stamped, so I like the Deep logos because that is what I am used to.

Ol'leatherneck, I do have the best solution to your little problem, get a second BK9 so you can have one of each! You can also deramp one and not feel bad. Except it may be a struggle to decide if you deramp the etched or the non etched. LOL

Yep....got another 7 so i can mod it and keep the other like ethan intended it

What grit sandpaper should I use to remove the logo's or wait......like hhmore posted above the patina I force may cover it enough that sanding isn't even needed to proceed with the next mod I have up my sleeve ?
