I just got one of these..mint in the box, I like it, but I have some Becker micarta grips that I am gonna add..first of all, how many of you have one of these bad boys? And what do you think? I think it seems like a great all around chopper. Almost a Kukri and Bowie mixed hybrid.
Second, I think I am gonna strip it..I hate blade finish, and I am gonna chop with it..so I might as well just remove whats gonna wear off anyhow, right?
Now, I know that these are fetching a good price on evilbay..so somebody might talk me outta all this madness..but I think..what the heck, as usual...its about having fun, and the big dollars these are fetching is crazy anyway. I remember buying my first Brute for about $60 back in the day.
So..whats the general opinion on these as a first choice chopper? OH...Ilbruche...have you ever made a sheath for one of these?? and if so..any pics? Gene:thumbup:

I still kick myself for picking up a Cold Steel khuk instead of a Brute years ago. I'd like to pick one up eventually. I can make up a rig for just about anything.

I absolutely LOVE mine; it's my prefered "production" chopper. It is a very usefull camp knife - car camping or canoe-camping; I consider it too big for backpack duties. It can split logs, hammer tent stakes, chop, whittle, etc... I might change the handles on mine eventually, and make a new sheath, but other than that, this "strange looking" knife (at first) it THE BEAST. Here's some shots of mine:

Go for it!!!!!

I, too, kick my butt for not buying one when they were available. I opted for a BK-7 instead, which I'm not overly impressed with.

I think the Brute has a 9" blade? If so, it's kind of like a straightened version of my beloved (:o) Machax.

Here it is stripped, rehandled and I added some stainless hardware to go the extra mile..I really like it. I gave it a light test, some serious chopping is to come later this week, after I sharpen it up. Gene

Congrats on the new knife. I picked up a patrol machete a little while ago but I think I like the looks of the Brute a bit more.

I think I am gonna try out a few more Beckers..I think I need to get BACK into a BK7..and go from there..but the patrol machete is on my must have list..Do you not like it?? I thought they looked like great heavy duty choppers.

I've a couple of these fantastic blades, you striped yours as I did with one of mine, I also pulled the plastic, and put on some madrone grips shaped for my hand, hell you can bust bricks backhanded with it just like the silly cold steel videos, you scored well, enjoy..G.

I have a BK10 that is crazy awesome and I just got a BK9 and Patrol Machete off of fleabay. The two new guys are just blade blanks and I plan on putting a nice convex edge on them. I suspect the reason I am not a huge fan of the machete is because pre-grinding it is rather heavy.

Picture of mine when it was a little newer. I use it often. Great knife. Along with its little brother. I use mine to chop and split all the time. It works great. You might need to sharpen it up a little though. I had to put a little shallower angle on the sharpened portion of the blade to make it a better chopper. Just a little shallower. In particular it batons fantastically.

Wow...thanks for posting pic's of the new look...looks really great.

I bought the BK-3 TacTool off the same thread...good blade, but wish now I had gone for the BK-9 before it sold.

Damn gene, that looks SWEET! Nice job. As far as the mods, its your steel dude. Might as well pimp it a little!

Thanks guys..I really like this blade...I cant believe that I used to own one and I didn tuse it at all...just sat around and then got sold...if I had tried it out, I would still have that one.
Orrey..I have been looking at those Becker blanks..that would be a sweet knife to send to Mike Stewart and have him pimp..I cant even begin to imagine how awesome the Patrol Machete would look convexed and micarta handled..maybe some spacers...that would be awesome.

Are the blade blanks sold on (...) properly heat treated? I asked the question to the seller and he had no clue...

And sorry for my off-topic question; gunknifenut, your Brute looks fantastic!
